South Florida has a bunch of kosher restaurants. There are plenty of gas stations, too. So\u2014what could I possibly be getting at here? Well, Deco\u2019s discovered a place where you can fill your tank\u2014and your belly.<\/p>\n
This looks like a typical motorist, gassing up at a typical Hollywood gas station. But there\u2019s nothing typical once you get inside.<\/p>\n
Elliot Kugelman: \u201cWe\u2019re at the kosher food court, home of the lucky dip and the lucky dog.\u201d<\/p>\n
How lucky can a foodie get?<\/p>\n
Elliot Kugelman: \u201cThe Lucky Dip is a dairy pizzeria, New York-style pizza, and the Lucky Dog is a meat restaurant.\u201d<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s tackle the obvious question. Why a gas station?<\/p>\n
Elliot Kugelman: \u201cVery convenient. People can park while they\u2019re waiting for their pie. We make everything fresh to order. while they\u2019re waiting, they\u2019ll fill up with gas, they\u2019ll get beer, they\u2019ll get a drink, and then they\u2019ll come back for their food, whether they sit here or they take it with them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t come in here expecting to find any exotic dishes.<\/p>\n
Elliot Kugelman: \u201cIt\u2019s not that. That\u2019s not what we\u2019re about. We are American traditional food made kosher.\u201d<\/p>\n
We\u2019re talking burgers and fries. Onion rings. Hot dogs done up fancy. Chicken wings slathered in home-made barbecue sauce. You can even go south of the border and get some tacos.<\/p>\n
Elliot Kugelman: \u201cBut this is what I have.\u201d<\/p>\n
The pizza and the calzones get the home-cooking treatment, as well.<\/p>\n
Elliot Kugelman: \u201cWe also make our own dough, and we make our own sauce all right here in the store.\u201d<\/p>\n
If you need something to drink \u2014 and you know you will \u2014 you\u2019ll have to do a little extra legwork.<\/p>\n
Elliot Kugelman: \u201cThey must buy it from the convenience store in the gas station. We don\u2019t sell any drinks.\u201d<\/p>\n
The whole family\u2019s gonna love the desserts.<\/p>\n
Elliot Kugelman: \u201cWe also have soft-serve ice cream, frozen custard, all kinds of pastries.\u201d<\/p>\n
You\u2019ll be the lucky one when you make it over to the Lucky Dip and the Lucky Dog.<\/p>\n
Elliot Kugelman: \u201cTwo separate kosher restaurants: a meat restaurant, a dairy pizzeria in a gas station in the heart of Hollywood. They want to try it, and once they come here, they\u2019re all repeat customers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lucky Dog\u2019s is located inside the Chevron station at 4051 Stirling Road in Hollywood. They\u2019re closed from sundown Friday to sundown on Saturday.<\/p>\n
