Frasier star Kelsey Grammer<\/a> gave an interview detailing a recent meeting with US president Donald Trump<\/a>, describing the controversial Republican leader as \u201call the things you want a president to be\u201d.<\/p>\n

Grammer, who is often described as one of the highest-profile Republicans in Hollywood, was interviewed by TMZ<\/a> during a recent trip to Washington, DC.<\/p>\n

The 71-year-old sitcom star was in town for the release of his new film, Young Washington, in which he plays the historical figure Thomas Fairfax, a friend of Washington and British Loyalist.<\/p>\n

Asked about his experience visiting the White House, Grammer responded that he and Trump \u201chang all the time\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s always a quality of respect for the fact that the office is as important as it is,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the man is affable, comfortable in the place he\u2019s in at this time \u2013 but also entertaining, charming, and all the things you want a president to be. [It\u2019s] good convo, good times.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grammer claimed that much of their discussion concerned the arrangement of portraits within the White House.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, \u2018Do you think Reagan should be over here, or Washington over there?\u2019 Mostly, it’s just agreed that Washington should be over the fireplace.\u201d <\/p>\n

The actor, who rose to fame playing erudite psychiatrist Frasier Crane on the hit sitcom Cheers (and its long-running spinoff) was also asked about speculated intentions to run for office, and whether he discussed that with the sitting president.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not sure where that was [said],\u201d Grammer replied. \u201cI know somebody said, \u2018Did you ever think about it?\u2019 I have thought about it in the past… [but] it\u2019s not something I\u2019m hatching as we speak.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s some real benefits to [being an actor],\u201d he continued, \u201cbut I\u2019m still saddled with this idea that I\u2019m supposed to serve my country in some way. It used to look like military service, but I didn\u2019t end up doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grammer\u2019s support of Trump has been a contentious subject in the past.<\/p>\n

In 2023, when the actor was doing interviews to promote the Frasier revival for Paramount+, the BBC claimed that Grammer had been prevented from answering about Trump by a PR<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While appearing on BBC<\/a> Radio 4\u2019s Today programme<\/a> , Grammer was asked if he was still supporting Trump. In response, he said: \u201cI am and I\u2019ll let that be the end of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
