President Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0called Tuesday\u2019s\u00a0primary election wins of progressive candidates<\/a> backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani<\/a>\u00a0\u201cthe greatest threat to our country since its founding,\u201d smearing them on Friday as communists who \u201cwill kill your people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump was speaking at the Faith & Freedom Coalition\u2019s 2026 Policy Conference in Washington, D.C., after Democratic socialists Claire Valdez<\/a> and Darializa Avila Chevalier<\/a> and progressive liberal Brad Lander<\/a> all won their primaries Tuesday\u00a0 \u2014 to the president\u2019s chagrin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry to say, but assassinations of those who oppose [communists] is a very important element of their ideology,\u201d Trump claimed Friday<\/a>. \u201cAssassination is a big deal for them. They are animals … In many cases, they are not smart, but in some cases, they are.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump warned that people will \u201cstart living in squalor\u201d if this progressive wave continues, noting, \u201cIt\u2019s happening right now in New York.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are not social democrats,\u201d Trump said Friday. \u201cThese are ******** godless communists. They\u2019re godless communists. All communists are godless. They don\u2019t believe in God. This is the most serious threat to our country since its existence, in my opinion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump went on to claim \u201cthese ruthless communists\u201d are hellbent on destroying \u201call religions\u201d and then boasted about recent U.S. airstrikes<\/a> that killed high-ranking ISIS leaders in Nigeria, likening the toppling of leadership there to his war on Iran<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know where they are. We hunt them down or we take them down. Think of it, they go into a village and they just kill everybody. It\u2019s crazy,\u201d he continued. \u201cThey will close your churches in this country if they go communist, and they\u2019re trying to. They will kill your people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s speech was a prime example of his self-described \u201cweave,\u201d<\/a> or rambling stream-of-consciousness speaking style, as he conflated the dangers of ISIS leaders, communists and the progressives who won their elections in seemingly the same breath.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the greatest threat,\u201d said Trump. \u201cPeople don\u2019t look at that. \u2018Oh, three people were elected.\u2019 No, no, it\u2019s many more than three people, and the other people are being swayed because they don\u2019t have the sense to see what\u2019s happening. They don\u2019t have the sense.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lander, Valdez and Chevalier have all criticized Israel and its genocide<\/a> in Palestine in recent years, prompting accusations of antisemitism. Lander is Jewish, Chevalier is Muslim and Valdez has largely remained private about her religious beliefs.<\/p>\n

Their primary wins have not only upset Republicans,\u00a0but also\u00a0Democrats have<\/a>\u00a0cast aspersions<\/a> on this progressive Mamdani-backed wing. On Friday, even \u201cReal Time\u201d host Bill Maher<\/a> told his guest, Vice President JD Vance<\/a>, that he might stop voting Democrat<\/a>.<\/p>\n
