HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Alzheimer\u2019s Association Brain Health Summit welcomed over a hundred community members Saturday.<\/p>\n
The summit, hosted by the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, highlighted the latest advances in Alzheimer\u2019s research.<\/p>\n
The event featured presentations on recent Alzheimer\u2019s advancements, sharing lifestyle factors that support cognitive health, new blood biomarker testing, advances in diagnosis, disease-modifying treatments now available for eligible patients, and the importance of early detection. <\/p>\n
The summit brought together healthcare professionals and community members, prioritizing Alzheimer\u2019s prevention and detection methods, and emphasizing the importance of Alzheimer\u2019s education.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe future of Alzheimer\u2019s care is changing,\u201d said LJ Duenas, executive director of the Alzheimer\u2019s Association Hawaii. \u201cToday\u2019s summit demonstrated that there is real hope right here in Hawaii. Research is advancing at an unprecedented pace, and we want families here to know there are more resources, more treatments, and more reasons than ever to seek answers early.\u201d <\/p>\n
Over 100,000 Hawaii residents are affected by Alzheimer\u2019s disease, and Hawaii has the fifth fastest-growing Alzheimer\u2019s mortality rate nationwide. <\/p>\n
