The 66-year-old two-time Oscar winner<\/a>, who was appearing as a guest on Bill Maher\u2019s Club Random podcast,<\/a> was asked by the host whether he remains in \u201cshow business jail\u201d and responded that he feels \u201cless in jail than I did.\u201d<\/p>\n Spacey was exiled from mainstream Hollywood in 2017<\/a> after multiple men accused him of sexual misconduct, which he has consistently denied.<\/p>\n In 2017, actor Anthony Rapp became the first to accuse Spacey of sexually abusing him. He claimed the incident occurred in 1986 when Spacey would have been 26, while Rapp was 14.<\/p>\n More than a dozen men subsequently accused Spacey of sexual misconduct, all of which he has either denied or insisted were consensual.<\/p>\n During the interview, Maher told Spacey: \u201cI\u2019m not going to lie to you, I go by numbers with scandals… If it\u2019s like one person, I\u2019m always like, I don\u2019t know if I wasn\u2019t in the room. When it gets to.. [the number of accusers Spacey had]… There\u2019s too much smoke to be no fire.\u201d<\/p>\n The American Beauty star responded: \u201cI never said there was no fire. It just wasn\u2019t a raging forest fire. It was a small kitchen fire that could have been put out with an extinguisher.\u201d<\/p>\n Spacey went on to state that: \u201cWe\u2019ve been found not guilty in every court we\u2019ve gone into with a jury,\u201d and added: \u201cThere are certain cases where part of something is true, but it\u2019s been rethought, it\u2019s been redesigned, or it\u2019s been entirely made up, certainly in the case of Anthony Rapp, which is a case that we won in federal court in New York.\u201d<\/p>\n Rapp\u2019s allegations were later dismissed by a Manhattan court in 2022,<\/a> and in 2023, Spacey stood trial in the UK after four men alleged that he had sexually assaulted them in separate incidents between 2001 and 2013. He was again cleared of all nine offences<\/a>.<\/p>\n Although Maher conceded he hadn\u2019t \u201cdone his homework\u201d regarding all of the allegations, he continued to push Spacey on the point that the number of accusations against him represented \u201ca lot of smoke.\u201d When Maher suggested that Spacey had been \u201cforward,\u201d the actor agreed: \u201cI hit on a lot of guys.\u201d<\/p>\n Spacey, who only came out as gay following Rapp\u2019s allegations, added: \u201cOver the years that I have been an actor, I was very, very closeted. I was fiercely closeted\u2026 I thought I was so clever that nobody knew, but of course kind of everybody knew.\u201d<\/p>\n Since his acquittal, Spacey has starred in several small projects, including the 2024 thriller The Contract, in which he played the Devil.<\/p>\n![\"Bill](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/MixCollage-29-Jun-2026-08-47-AM-6866.jpg\")
