In the wake of their massive Download<\/a> set and increased popularity online, Wes Borland<\/a> has said Limp Bizkit<\/a> are \u201cthe biggest we\u2019ve ever been right now\u201d.<\/p>\n

The band recently headlined Download Festival for the first time<\/a>, 23 years after they were first meant to. The nu-metal group have a long history with the Donington Park festival, and sub-headlined the last day of 2024\u2019s edition, with Kerrang!<\/a> suggesting that their set ultimately drew a bigger crowd than that year\u2019s actual headliners, Avenged Sevenfold<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Having now topped the bill, Borland recently sat down with the Gear4musicguitars channel to discuss their growing popularity, which the interviewer compared to KoRn<\/a>\u2018s success with the social media generation \u2013 which earlier this year \u2018Freak On A Leash\u2019 go viral<\/a> on TikTok<\/a> thanks to a dance trend involving\u00a0Zara Larsson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re the biggest we\u2019ve ever been right now [as well],\u201d he agreed. \u201cIt\u2019s crazy. And I\u2019m not saying that in a cocky way. I\u2019m saying that, like, we can\u2019t believe it.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just been \u2014 we\u2019re so lucky. I don\u2019t know exactly how it happened, but I think people\u2026 We just get along so well now, and everybody, we\u2019re adults, and we\u2019re still having fun doing it, and I think that translates to the audience.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked how the songwriting process typically worked for the band, Borland said frontman Fred Durst usually came into the studio with ideas they could riff off.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been so busy lately that when we\u2019ve gone into the studio, which we have a few times over the last couple years, but the resurgence in our schedule has just been amazing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know whether it\u2019s TikTok or nostalgia or what it is, but we\u2019ve been busy, busy, busy. But usually in the past, when we\u2019ve made a record, I go do lots of riff writing and then bring it in, and then we start building songs off of that. Or Fred will work on song ideas at home, and then we\u2019ll build off of that.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then sometimes we just start improvising. Or he\u2019ll go, \u2018Write the best thing you\u2019ve ever written right now, on the spot.\u2019 But some of that stuff happens. I mean, I think \u2018Break Stuff\u2019 happened that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

As several outlets noted last year, they saw a spike in streaming numbers in the wake of the death of bass player Sam Rivers<\/a> as fans revisited their catalogue, and last year, their era-defining classic \u2018Break Stuff\u2019 hit Number One on the Billboard Hard Rock Songs Chart \u2013 25 years after it was released as a single.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview with\u00a0Consequence<\/a>, Borland also opened up about how he still felt \u201cvery emotional\u201d about the loss of Rivers<\/a>, and said that he struggles to speak about it still.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was like family,\u201d he explained. \u201cI\u2019m gonna try not to cry. It\u2019s just like we lost a piece of our DNA\u2026 It\u2019s too hard to talk about right now in depth.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cHe can\u2019t ever be replaced. We\u2019re so lucky for Richie\u2026 he\u2019s such a great player, and he\u2019s just a wonderful guy, and we\u2019re gonna hold onto him for as long as we can.<\/p>\n

\u201c[But] Sam is not a replaceable person. He was the heartbeat. It\u2019s very emotional talking about it. I think that last year when it happened, we were all kind of in shock, and now we\u2019re all grieving.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band are performing various festival slots across Europe this summer, with appearances including slots at festivals including Louder Than Life<\/a>\u00a0and Aftershock. Tickets to their upcoming shows are available\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
