The only thing Nike (NKE<\/a>) is “just doing” is serving up another post-earnings day stock slide because its results were far from a slam dunk.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Shares of the sneaker giant fell 2% in premarket trading on Wednesday, bringing its stock down about 40% on the year. Nike’s stock hasn’t been this low since 2014.<\/a> <\/p>\n

As they say, the devil’s in the details. <\/p>\n

Nike reported fiscal fourth quarter revenue of $11.0 billion, reflecting a 1% decline on a reported basis and a 4% drop on a currency-neutral basis.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

While the company’s diluted earnings per share of $0.72 appeared significantly stronger year over year, it was heavily distorted by a massive $0.52-per-share one-time benefit from an expected tariff recovery.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Executives guided for fiscal first quarter revenues to be down low single-digit to mid single-digit percentage. It reiterated flat earnings-per-share growth over the next three quarters, excluding benefits from tariff recovery proceeds.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

The company continues to struggle with execution issues under CEO Elliott Hill, who recently replaced the company’s CFO in a bid to improve performance. Changing sneaker preferences, cautious consumers, and hungry competitors like On Holdings (ONON<\/a>) continue to hold the company back and delay any signs of a turnaround. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, sales in North America are simply bumping along the bottom. <\/p>\n

“We assume investors will still question whether Nike has ‘ripped the band-aid’ on earnings revisions (we think we’re close\u2026 though we have said this earlier) and after a stretch of meaningful post-EPS downward revisions, we wonder if tonight will drive a more muted reaction, further raising questions of potential stabilization ahead,” Guggenheim analyst Simeon Siegel wrote in a note. <\/p>\n
