July 2 (Reuters) – European shares slipped on Thursday, tracking a sombre mood in global markets \u200cas AI stocks came under pressure, while \u200cinvestors awaited a key employment report out of the United \u200bStates to gauge the path for interest rates. <\/p>\n
The pan-European STOXX 600 index slipped 0.1% to 638.27 points by 0704 GMT. <\/p>\n
AI stocks in Asia and on Wall \u200cStreet overnight witnessed \u2060sharp declines as the sector cooled from a strong finish to the previous quarter \u2060that pushed up their valuations sharply. <\/p>\n
However, Europe’s smaller exposure to tech stocks helped limit its drag on \u200bthe \u200bSTOXX index. <\/p>\n
The STOXX 600 \u200btech index slipped 1.5% \u200cand led sectoral declines, with Soitec down 5.1% and Aixtron falling 3.6%. <\/p>\n
Bucking the trend, Sodexo rose 6.5% after the French food caterer raised its full-year organic revenue growth forecast, citing stronger-than-expected third-quarter performance. <\/p>\n
The focus \u200cwill shift later in the \u200bday to the U.S. June \u200bnonfarm payrolls data, \u200bwhich could offer clues on the \u200coutlook for U.S. interest rates. <\/p>\n
Economic \u200bdata will \u200bbe under greater scrutiny by investors to gauge the monetary policy outlook as the Federal Reserve \u200bhas said \u200cit will stop issuing forward guidance. <\/p>\n
