{"id":521589,"date":"2026-07-02T12:09:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T12:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/521589\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T12:09:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T12:09:10","slug":"maternity-services-at-small-orkney-hospital-praised-in-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/521589\/","title":{"rendered":"Maternity services at small Orkney hospital praised in report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 100 births in 2025 were down from 145 in 2020. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Any urgent transfers to mainland Scotland are carried out by air, determined by the availability of aircraft, crew and weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Transfers rose from 45 in 2020 to 54 in 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Balfour&#8217;s maternity ward was said to be clean, organised and maintained to a high standard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Throughout our inspection we observed staff providing person-centred, compassionate and responsive care to women and their families,&#8221; HIS chief inspector Donna Maclean said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The report added: &#8220;Good teamwork was evident throughout the inspection between obstetricians, midwives and the health care support team. The senior midwifery and senior obstetric leadership teams were visible with respectful, friendly and supportive interactions observed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Staff described being supported by senior managers and felt able to raise concerns.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The 100 births in 2025 were down from 145 in 2020.
