Project Hail Mary is based on Andy Weir’s 2021 novel of the same name, and follows science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) as he wakes up on a spaceship with little memory as to how he got there.<\/p>\n

Over time, he begins to remember that Earth was in a perilous position due to ongoing damage to the Sun, and that he was sent on a mission to save all of humanity. Along the way, he meets an adorable alien friend he calls ‘Rocky’.<\/p>\n

Project Hail Mary<\/a> was acclaimed by critics upon its theatrical release<\/a> in March, with Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> currently reporting an impressive approval rating of 94% from 416 reviews. Furthermore, the audience score is a near-perfect 95%.<\/p>\n

Josh Gad, best known for his role as Olaf in the Frozen franchise, dubbed it<\/a> the “first masterpiece of 2026”, calling it a “perfect adaptation of a book” that he “thought was impossible to adapt”.<\/p>\n

In Digital Spy’s five-star review<\/a>, we called it a “flawless adaptation”, adding: “[It] manages the tricky task of appealing to fans of the novel\u2026 while also ensuring it can bring new fans to this hopeful and affecting story.”<\/p>\n

“[It] certainly qualifies as an uplifting experience at the cinema, being a mix of selflessness, sacrifice, camaraderie and even a certain amount of melancholy,” noted America Magazine<\/a>, while The Australian<\/a> called it “visually stunning [and] emotionally resonant”.<\/p>\n

New York Post<\/a> was also full of praise, writing: “I didn’t really mind the ridiculousness, though. The film is so much fun. It tugs at the heartstrings often, and Rocky is so brilliantly animated to the point of complete believability. Gosling is great.”<\/p>\n
