Mick Jagger<\/a> expressed hopes that the Rolling Stones<\/a> will play live again, and said he was still writing songs for the band.<\/p>\n

They\u2019ll release their 25th studio album Foreign Tongues<\/a> on Jul. 10, with a range of guest appearances including Paul McCartney<\/a>, Steve Winwood<\/a>, Robert Smith<\/a> and others.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview with NME<\/a>, Jagger was asked about the Stones\u2019 future, including whether they\u2019d play the Glastonbury festival again. That led him to reminisce about their 2013 appearance<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a difficult gig to do,\u201d the veteran frontman said. \u201cThe stage is very odd. It\u2019s so disjointed and you\u2019re so far away from everyone. We normally have a 50-feet walkway, and we only had 10.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, it\u2019s great when you look up the hill and you see everyone; it\u2019s fantastic. There\u2019s no doubt about it. Do I wanna do it again? Oh, I\u2019ll say yes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if he meant that the band\u2019s live career wasn\u2019t over, Jagger responded: \u201cHopefully not. I don\u2019t think there\u2019ll be shows this year, but I hope to do some next year for the Stones.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to explain that no shows had been booked for 2026 because \u201cKeith<\/a> couldn\u2019t commit, and he wasn\u2019t feeling so great about touring and everything. Which leads you on to the question of residencies.\u201d<\/p>\n

He clarified that he didn\u2019t mean something like a Las Vegas residency \u2013 \u201cmore like Harry Styles doing [short runs of shows] in Amsterdam and London. \u2026 But we are gonna get live dates in for next year, hopefully.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jagger was also asked if there was a 26th Stones record somewhere in the ether. \u201cYeah, it could be a trio [of albums],\u201d he said, presumably referring to the next LP being the third in the current run. \u201cI\u2019ve already started writing songs anyway. They could be for other people, though.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very open-minded to it. I\u2019ve got a lot of stuff, and not all of it\u2019s suitable for the Rolling Stones. It shouldn\u2019t stop me writing them, you know \u2013 if you get an idea, just write it.\u201d<\/p>\n

McCartney appears on Foreign Tongues track \u201cCovered In You,\u201d which Jagger said had been recorded during the same session that yielded \u201cBite My Head Off\u201d<\/a> on 2023\u2019s Hackney Diamonds<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very easy,\u201d the singer said of the Beatles<\/a> icon\u2019s guest spot. \u201cObviously, I\u2019ve known Paul for ages. He\u2019s not a stranger, but he\u2019s never played bass with us before. It\u2019s a different thing, you know.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said to Andy<\/a>, \u2018Is he gonna be into this? Because it\u2019s a punk tune and I want overdriven bass. It\u2019s gonna be simple, no mucking about.\u2019 And Paul did exactly what was needed in, like, 10 minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n
