Morrissey<\/a> has suggested the BBC is blacklisting his single, \u201cNotre-Dame,\u201d which he says has received \u201cno airplay\u201d despite currently sitting at No. 6 on the UK Official Singles Sales Chart<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe public wants to hear the song, but the BBC will not play it even though their stations are a public service duty-bound to reflect public taste,\u201d the singer wrote in a post titled \u201cDiversity Is a Lie\u201d\u00a0on Morrissey Central<\/a>. \u201cObviously not! If the song is suspected of independent thought \u2013 God forbid!, it is not played, therefore, under these circumstances, any station that pledges allegiance to diversity is lying.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cWhen people say \u2018Diversity is our strength\u2019 they fail to mention how their notion of \u2018diversity\u2019 entails very strict Third Reich regulations and punishments. I wonder why people can\u2019t simply be honest about these things?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNotre-Dame\u201d originally appeared on the March release of Morrissey\u2019s latest album,\u00a0Make-up Is a Lie<\/a>. In late June, he released a deluxe vinyl<\/a> of the track, propelling it to a new peak on the Singles Sales Chart, which is based on purchases of vinyl, CDs, and digital downloads. Phoebe Bridgers\u2019 new single, \u201cLost Boys,\u201d<\/a> currently sits at No. 1.<\/p>\n

However, on the Official Singles Chart<\/a> \u2014 which also factors in audio and video streams \u2014 \u201cNotre-Dame\u201d is nowhere to be found. Currently, Sam Fender and Olivia Dean\u2019s long-running hit, \u201cRein Me In,\u201d is in its 15th week at No. 1.<\/p>\n

This latest grievance comes after Morrissey published a since-deleted letter<\/a> on his official website, accusing his former bandmate Johnny Marr of trying to \u201cdestroy the legacy\u201d of The Smiths. He also recently began selling official t-shirts<\/a> that replace \u201cThe Smiths\u201d with \u201cMorrissey\u201d on artwork inspired by two classic Smiths albums.<\/p>\n
