\n\tPARIS \u2014 Roger Vivier<\/a> is taking personalization to the next level with the launch of a collection of one-of-a-kind shoes.<\/p>\n

\n\tCreative director Gherardo Felloni<\/a> has expanded the brand\u2019s ultra-exclusive Pi\u00e8ce Unique range<\/a> of handbags and embroidered vests, traditionally presented during Paris Couture Week<\/a>, to include for the first time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tHis fall 2026 collection, \u201cL\u2019Atelier des Papillons,\u201d is based on the house\u2019s signature concave Choc heel and one of founder Roger Vivier<\/a>\u2019s favorite themes: the butterfly.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tFelloni said the Pi\u00e8ce Unique collection felt like a natural evolution, following the recent launch of a made-to-order service at Vivier\u2019s new boutique<\/a> on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honor\u00e9 in Paris. In terms of design, it offered him unprecedented range.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTo have the possibility to work totally free on a pair of shoes is not something that happens every day in a shoe designer\u2019s life,\u201d he told WWD.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tEach design is produced in a size 37 prototype for the house\u2019s archive. A single pair will then be made to the client\u2019s specifications, allowing Felloni to work with new materials and techniques in a more experimental way.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEven if I choose, for example, real river pearls to do an embroidery, I don\u2019t have to check if there\u2019s a quantity to make a big production, so in a way it\u2019s easier,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s going to be one woman that will like this in the world. When you need to do a production, you need to have more of a 360-degree approach. These kind of shoes are more peculiar so for me, it\u2019s a totally different approach,\u201d Felloni said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile the designs flowed at warp speed, bringing them to life has been a lengthier process. \u201cNobody does it, really, so it was a big challenge and we\u2019re finally ready,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

\n\tFelloni started with the handbags to establish a blueprint for the embroideries, and then designed the corresponding pumps, peep-toes and sandals \u2014 comparing the process to the way Vivier mirrored the haute couture creations of designers such as Christian Dior or Yves Saint Laurent.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Vivier was a pioneer in many respects, his approach was artisanal, while Felloni can tap into more advanced technology, such as 3D printing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cToday we have more space to explore, because the techniques are more sophisticated,\u201d he noted. \u201cSo it\u2019s a really interesting project to take inspiration from the past, but with the techniques that we have today.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe designer leaned into the butterfly\u2019s metamorphosis with shapeshifting designs that augment the shoes and swirl around the foot: think exotic tendrils, sculpted metal flowers, and butterflies made from intricate bead embroidery, hand-painted feathers, organza, macram\u00e9 or mother-of-pearl.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey are a little bit \u2018tremblant,\u2019 like \u2018tremblant\u2019 jewels, so if somebody walks in these shoes, they\u2019re going to move,\u201d he said of the latter.<\/p>\n

\n\tSome elements refer to archival designs. For example, several of the shoes sprout little antennae, a nod to a black pump with a graphic spiral that Vivier made for Dior.<\/p>\n

\n\tOthers push the brand into new territory, such as the first Pi\u00e8ce Unique sneakers: couture interpretations of the Viv\u2019 Run, the running shoe Felloni designed when he joined the house in 2018.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe believes the women who collect Pi\u00e8ce Unique bags and vests will embrace the experience of ordering a shoe.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe have this family of customers that are really close to the maison. They know our heritage,\u201d he said. \u201cProbably it sounds a little bit weird for people that think about business or about money, but I think it\u2019s a beautiful approach for fashion to have this kind of space to do something that is really unique.\u201d<\/p>\n
