No one does repressed families quite like the British. And it seems Bill Nighy\u2019s latest film, & Sons, will be no exception.\u00a0Nighy\u2019s latest sees him getting dishevelled to play a dying novelist, making one last attempt to connect with his estranged family. And they\u2019re quite a clan, comprising a raft of young British talent: George McKay, A Quiet Place<\/a>\u2019s Noah Jupe, and a particularly beardy Johnny Flynn (soon to be seen in HBO\u2019s Harry Potter series<\/a>). That trio plays & Sons\u2019 eponymous sons \u2013 although they\u2019re hardly a united front, with family secrets bubbling under the surface, and Nighy\u2019s father figure preparing to deliver a confession that could bring his family closer together or tear them all apart. Beyond Nighy and the starry trio of sons, the film boasts an impressive homegrown cast \u2013 also featuring Imelda Staunton and Dominic West. And it looks like we could be in for a strong turn from the ever-great Nighy as the difficult patriarch \u2013 and not just because he looks less dapper than usual. The film comes from Argentine director Pablo Trapero, with a script from Women Talking<\/a> filmmaker Sarah Polley.\u00a0Here\u2019s the official synopsis: “A world-renowned but reclusive novelist, convinced he is about to die, summons his estranged sons to his home. But instead of seeking forgiveness for his countless mistakes, he instead reveals a truly unbelievable secret that brings his beloved ex-wife back into his orbit. With decades of resentment, jealousy and rage on the verge of spilling over, this splintered family is forced to face an inevitable reckoning, for better or for worse.”<\/p>\n
