The writer of Marvel\u2019s X-Men movie just said the thing out loud: the X-Men are for everybody.<\/p>\n

Lee Sung Jin \u2014 the Beef creator reuniting with his Beef director Jake Schreier, who helms the mutant reboot after Thunderbolts* \u2014 tells Deadline<\/a> that he and co-writer Joanna Calo (The Bear) are starting from the one thing every version of the franchise that ever worked started from.<\/p>\n

Notice what \u201cfeeling othered\u201d means in that framing. It\u2019s not a demographic checkbox. It\u2019s the most universal feeling there is, that every kid who ever ate lunch alone, every adult who ever walked into a room and felt like the odd one out. <\/p>\n

That\u2019s why the theme is \u201crelevant today in 2026\u201d: because it\u2019s relevant to everybody, in any year.<\/p>\n

John Byrne Just Said The Same Thing<\/p>\n

If that sounds familiar, it\u2019s because one of the men who built the franchise made the identical point days ago.<\/p>\n

As we covered<\/a>, John Byrne told The New York Times the X-Men were never designed as a civil rights allegory \u2014 \u201cXavier is F.D.R. and Magneto is Hitler\u201d \u2014 and that the activist framing was retrofitted by fans, with Stan Lee happy to take the credit.<\/p>\n

Now the guy writing the movie lands on the same page, nearly word for word: \u201cyou\u2019re able to see and identify parts of yourself in these people on the big screen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marvel Already Proved It Works<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t theory. Marvel just ran the experiment on its own animated series.<\/p>\n

X-Men \u201997 Season 2 stripped out the Season 1 agenda messaging \u2014 the latest sign of Marvel\u2019s retreat from its message-first era<\/a> \u2014 and told a universal story instead. <\/p>\n

The results: a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, a 10\/10 three-episode premiere<\/a>, and a 10\/10 Apocalypse episode<\/a> that plays like a gut punch instead of a lecture. <\/p>\n

Critics themselves called it less preachy.<\/p>\n

For everybody. Character first. Watch what happens.<\/p>\n

And Lee\u2019s \u201cthey want to go back to character first\u201d line slots right next to Robert Downey Jr. selling Avengers: Doomsday as the antidote to everything since Endgame, which is its own admission<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Marvel knows what stopped working. The people building the next era keep saying so. And this fits with Disney\u2019s new approach, according to our insiders<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With mutants positioned as the center of gravity heading into Avengers: Doomsday<\/a>, Schreier\u2019s movie is the flagship of the rebuild. <\/p>\n

Schreier, who helms the reboot after Thunderbolts*, has been on the industry\u2019s radar, with breakout star Inde Navarrette noting she\u00a0already met X-Men director Jake Schreier<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The comics figured this out sixty years ago, X-Men \u201997 just proved it again on screen, and now the movie\u2019s own writer is saying it: the X-Men work when they\u2019re for everybody.<\/p>\n
