London, 10th\u00a0July 2026\u00a0\u2013\u00a0The International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) welcomes the Church of England\u2019s\u00a0discussion of a report by Palestinian Christian group Kairos Palestine.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The report,\u00a0\u2018A Moment of Truth: Faith in a Time of Genocide\u2019,\u00a0was\u00a0issued on 14th\u00a0November 2025 and\u00a0says Palestinian Christians gathered \u201cafter prayer and reflection on the suffering of our people under occupation\u201d and declare: \u201cWe live now in a time of genocide, ethnic cleansing and forced displacement unfolding before the eyes of the world.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The General Synod, the Church\u2019s legislative body, is due to consider a motion encouraging engagement with the document at its annual gathering in York.\u00a0The motion asks the Church to receive and engage with the report as part of its understanding of Palestinian Christian experience amid Israel\u2019s genocide in Gaza.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The document describes Israel as a \u201ccolonial, settler, and exclusionary entity\u201d and says Palestinians are \u201cthe indigenous people of this land\u201d.\u00a0It calls on churches \u201cto distinguish between dialogue with Jews and dialogue with Zionism\u201d and that \u201cThe genocidal war on Gaza is the continuation of the Zionist project to seize all of Palestine, emptied of its Palestinian people.\u201d\u00a0The document has already been formally accepted by the Methodist Church.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Although the motion merely asks the Church to engage with the document, attempts by\u00a0external\u00a0groups and figures to prevent even its discussion are deeply concerning and should be recognised as an effort to silence Palestinian Christian testimony at a moment of profound suffering and moral urgency.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Efforts by pro-Israel figures to suppress debate within the Church stand in sharp contrast to repeated warnings from former Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem Hosam Naoum about the accelerating disappearance of the Christian community in Palestine. As Archbishop Naoum has\u00a0observed, Palestinian Christians in Jerusalem increasingly say, \u201cIn 15 years\u2019 time, there\u2019ll be none of us left\u201d \u2013 a\u00a0sobering warning about the future of Christianity in the Holy Land.\u00a0<\/p>\n
