Turkiye\u2019s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Friday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s policies and government are a strain for Israel, the region and international security,\u00a0Anadolu reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe policies of Netanyahu\u2019s government are not only a problem for us,\u201d Fidan said in an interview with the Abu Dhabi-based The National newspaper. \u201cHis policies and his government are a burden for Israel, a burden for the region, and a burden and threat for international security.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fidan ruled out the possibility that rhetoric between Ankara and Tel Aviv could escalate into an open conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no reason to have an open conflict,\u201d he said. Turkiye\u2019s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan \u201cis a leader of peace and wisdom\u201d who \u201cwouldn\u2019t be baited into anything,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

European leaders, while beginning to recognize the danger of Israel, are yet to find ways of dealing with the problem, he said, warning that attempts to destabilize the progress in Syria could change that.<\/p>\n

He said international attention had shifted from the Gaza Strip because of the war in the Gulf and added that greater international pressure on Israel is needed \u201cto let Palestinians get more international humanitarian aid.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fidan noted Turkiye\u2019s unique position to mediate regional disputes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know everybody, we know the dynamics of every conflict,\u201d he said. \u201cSo, I think we are best positioned to really understand (what is happening) and how to help stop them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to go back to a situation where the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every nation is fully recognized,\u201d said Fidan. \u201cIran has claimed for a long time that it was a pre-emptive security policy that they\u2019ve been taking by having (proxies) in these countries, just like the Israelis are occupying the rest of the region as part of security.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we get a new security understanding, which would guarantee safety, security, political sovereignty, and territorial integrity of every party in the region, with a new understanding, I think it should tell Iran, look, we can go back to our corners,\u201d he said, expressing his belief that Iran \u201cis mature enough to understand all these realities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo hopefully, if we reach a peace agreement between United States and Iran, then we can really start having healthy discussions.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2013 Iran-US ceasefire can hold, says Turkish foreign minister<\/p>\n

Fidan said he believed the ceasefire between Iran and the US could hold despite US President Donald Trump\u2019s claim that it was \u201cover.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there was a lack of communication and misunderstanding between both sides in terms of how to implement the passage through the strait,\u201d he said, adding that a call with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, late Thursday left him with \u201ca deeper understanding of the root of the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said de-escalation was the solution.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth sides genuinely want to have the ceasefire and to move ahead with the peace agreement,\u201d he said. \u201cNevertheless, there is always a percentage of accident possible, and because of miscommunications or provocations and retaliations, we have to be very careful.\u201d<\/p>\n
