{"id":538849,"date":"2026-07-13T07:32:07","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T07:32:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/538849\/"},"modified":"2026-07-13T07:32:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T07:32:07","slug":"robot-gives-surgeons-a-helping-hand-in-first-operation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/538849\/","title":{"rendered":"Robot gives surgeons a helping hand in first operation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Surgeons in Cornwall have carried out the first procedure using a soft tissue robotic surgical system, which medics have hailed as &#8220;a major milestone for patient care&#8221; in the county.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The new robotic system operated by surgeons at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS  Trust was first used in an operation on 6 July.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">James Clark, the trust&#8217;s head of surgery who leads the soft tissue robotic surgical programme, said: &#8220;It was fantastic for patients that we are able to offer the quality of the best robotic surgery locally, rather than them having to travel out of county.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He said it allowed surgeons to operate with enhanced precision in small areas of the body which were difficult to reach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Clark, who controlled the robotic arms from a console, said: &#8220;It just enables me to control it with with much greater precision than I would do manually.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The dexterity that the robot has is far above what a human hand can offer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He said it was &#8220;a very strange experience&#8221; as a surgeon at first.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The team have been training at a robotic centre in Belgium to &#8220;learn how to use the system to its best potential&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Surgeons in Cornwall have carried out the first procedure using a soft tissue robotic surgical system, which medics&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":538850,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[34],"tags":[163,521,85,46],"class_list":["post-538849","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-healthcare","tag-health","tag-healthcare","tag-il","tag-israel"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/538849","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=538849"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/538849\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/538850"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=538849"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=538849"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=538849"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
