2026 has been a quiet year for Ridley Scott<\/a> so far, who has not directed anything yet and only produced one series, The Terror: Devil in Silver, starring Dan Stevens<\/a>. Scott only directed one episode of the Apple TV crime thriller in 2025, Dope Thief, and it was just confirmed earlier this week that the fate of the show has officially been sealed, with Apple opting not to pick it up for Season 2. Scott\u2019s last directorial feature came back at the end of 2024 when he worked with Paul Mescal<\/a> and Denzel Washington<\/a> on Gladiator II<\/a>, the legacy sequel to the 2000 Oscar-winning film starring Russell Crowe<\/a>. The year before Gladiator II, Scott also teamed up with Joaquin Phoenix<\/a> for another historical epic, Napoleon<\/a>, which is one of the biggest bombs of his career.<\/p>\n

Scott has been on hiatus from directing in the sci-fi genre for a while now \u2014 his last directed sci-fi feature came back in 2018 with the premiere of Alien: Covenant<\/a>, which subsequently also serves as the final Alien project Scott will ever direct. He is returning to the sci-fi genre later this year for a new thriller, The Dog Stars<\/a>, which is now launching on August 28 after being delayed out of its initial March premiere spot. This afternoon, 20th Century Studios released what will likely be the final trailer for The Dog Stars before the film\u2019s August 28 launch, highlighting cast members such as Jacob Elordi<\/a> and Josh Brolin<\/a> in the electric new thriller. Scott has also recruited other stars such as Margaret Qualley<\/a>, Benedict Wong<\/a>, and Guy Pearce<\/a> for key roles in The Dog Stars.<\/p>\n
