Mary Jo \u201cMJ\u201d Shannon, the mother of Kardashian \u201cmomager\u201d Kris Jenner, has died, Jenner announced on July 16. <\/a>She was 91 years old. <\/p>\n

Jenner shared a heartfelt post about her mother, describing her as the \u201cheart of our family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, we said goodbye to my beautiful Mommy MJ,\u201d Jenner said of Shannon in her social media post. \u201cThere are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me or the heartbreak of having to say goodbye.\u201d <\/p>\n

In her social media post<\/a>, Jenner reflected on the ways in which Shannon, known to fans of \u201cThe Kardashians\u201d as \u201cMJ,\u201d had impacted her throughout the course her life. Shannon was the grandmother to the family\u2019s famous stars including Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner.<\/p>\n

\"MaryMary Jo Shannon, known to fans of \u201cThe Kardashians\u201d as \u201cMJ,\u201d died at 91 years old.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe taught me everything that truly matters\u2026 to love your family fiercely, to be kind, to show up for the people you love, and to never take a single moment together for granted,\u201d Jenner wrote. \u201cShe taught us that family is everything. She showed us how to love unconditionally and how to find joy in the little moments. She showed me how to face life\u2019s challenges with resilience and faith.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jenner, who said she was grateful for \u201cevery sacrifice\u201d her mother made, also shared the aspects of Shannon that she will grieve. <\/p>\n

\u201cI will miss our daily talks, your smile, your laughter\u2026 Our hearts are broken, but we find comfort knowing that love like yours never truly leaves us,\u201d Jenner wrote. \u201cYour love will live on in our family, in our traditions, in every moment we are together, and in every life you touched.\u201d <\/p>\n

While Jenner said that the loss will be difficult for her and the family, she added that Shannon\u2019s memory will live on. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I look at my kids and my grandkids, I will forever see pieces of you in all of us. There is not a part of me that isn\u2019t shaped by you. And if I have done anything right in this world, it\u2019s because I spent my life trying to live in a way that would make you proud,\u201d Jenner wrote. \u201cEvery memory, every moment, every blessing, it was all because of you, and I will forever thank God every single day for making you my mommy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jenner concluded her post by thanking Shannon for \u201cgiving us everything.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cMy heart is broken into a million pieces\u2026 thank you for giving me the greatest childhood and oh what a beautiful blessed life\u2026\u201d Jenner wrote. \u201cI love you forever Mommy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Several other members of the Kardashian family also shared emotional messages about Shannon. Kim Kardashian described her late grandmother in an Instagram post <\/a>as her \u201cbest friend, my gossip buddy, my forever twin.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cYou taught all of us the importance of family, and those values are something we\u2019ll carry with us forever!!!!!\u201d Kardashian wrote on social media. <\/p>\n

Kardashian added that Shannon was the one who taught her \u201cwhat it meant to be a hardworking businesswoman.\u201d She explained in the post that her grandmother had given her her first job at a store Shannon owned in San Diego. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou always believed in me, championed me, and were my safe place. You truly were the matriarch of our family, and your love is woven into all of us,\u201d Kardashian wrote, calling on Shannon to embrace several of her late family members including her father Robert Kardashian, who died in 2003. \u201cI know you\u2019re at peace now.\u201d <\/p>\n

Kourtney Kardashian Barker also posted a sweet photo of Shannon on her Instagram stories while Khloe Kardashian shared a tearful moment between Jenner and Shannon from the family\u2019s reality show. <\/p>\n

In the past, Jenner has opened up about how Shannon\u2019s health. During a 2025 episode of \u201cThe Kardashians,\u201d <\/a>Jenner broke down when reflecting on her mother\u2019s well-being after Karen Houghton, Shannon\u2019s younger daughter, died unexpectedly in 2024. <\/p>\n

\u201cEver since my sister passed<\/a> away, she\u2019s been super sad, like we all have, and I know that I need to be there for her,\u201d Jenner said. <\/p>\n

In the episode, Shannon revealed she hadn\u2019t been to her kitchen for two days due to pain she had been experiencing. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis makes me really sad,\u201d an emotional Jenner said in the episode. \u201cI just hate it when she\u2019s in so much pain.\u201d<\/p>\n
