The Pixel 10 Pro is packed with AI features \u2014 and I’ve used all of them. Most, honestly, are novelties I tried once and forgot. But four have genuinely changed how I use my phone and [save me real time<\/a>] every day: one that gives me a 100x zoom that feels almost unbelievable, and three that help me remember things, stay organized, and use my phone in situations where I couldn’t before. Here are the four I actually keep coming back to.<\/p>\n

The Tensor G5 in the Pixel 10 series runs a diffusion model on-device that uses AI to try to create detail that was never there. After you take a photo and zoom into the maximum 100x, the device uses AI to essentially come up with new image data to create a compelling zoomed-in image. The Pixel then saves both the original and the Pro Res Zoom version to your gallery so you can see the before and after, and sometimes the results are truly mind-blowing.<\/p>\n

But Pro Res Zoom isn’t perfect and works best on text\/signs, architecture, and scenes with high contrast colors in good light like a boat on a lake or a leaf against a sky or tree. Since Pro Res Zoom relies on taking and stacking rapid bursts of photos to maximize image data, you can help it work better with a steady hand or by using a tripod<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This feature honestly reminds me of old crime movies where someone would zoom in on a blurry suspect on camera then say “enhance” and the image would magically clear up. Pro Res Zoom isn’t that good, but it’s close.<\/p>\n

So how does it pull this off? It starts with real optical zoom, then lets AI take over.<\/p>\n

It’s like a powerful telescope in your pocket<\/p>\n

Optical zoom on modern phones, which in some cases uses a periscope mechanism inside the camera to allow for physical distance to be present between each lens, allows you to optically zoom in 5x without losing detail on the Pixel 10 Pro.<\/p>\n

Beyond that zoom level, you’re relying on digital zoom, which is just enlarging the image without detail (which is why the image gets blurry when you zoom in a lot). But on the latest Pixels, the phone can fill in details in photos that ordinarily would get lost under heavy zoom. And the results can be very impressive.<\/p>\n

Imaging aside, the next feature I use every day solves a real problem when it comes to consuming content when other people are around.<\/p>\n

Like you, I spend a lot of time viewing content on my phone \u2014 mostly YouTube, sometimes Instagram Reels, and the other usual suspects. But for the sake of peace in my marriage and those around me, playing content on my Pixel’s speaker is not an option when other people are around. And sometimes I don’t have my wireless earbuds with me.<\/p>\n

The Pixel has a feature called Live Caption that “listens to” any audio on your device (even if it’s on mute) and converts it into real-time captions on the screen right on your device (it works if you have no internet). It’s very accurate and fast, and it’s a feature I use almost every day. Live Caption is perfect for secretly watching a sports game on YouTube TV, catching up on a podcast, or even being able to “see” what the other person is saying during a phone call.<\/p>\n

To turn on Live Caption on your Pixel, the fastest way is to press one of the volume buttons (up or down), and you’ll see the Live Caption button, which looks like a speech bubble with text inside. Tap that, and now all audio will be turned into on-screen captions.<\/p>\n

The next AI feature I use helps me remember important conversations.<\/p>\n

Recorder is the ultimate memory hack<\/p>\n

I’m getting older and my memory is not great. Maybe you can relate. Sometimes I have important conversations or attend meetings where I want to remember what was said so that I can go back if needed.<\/p>\n

If you just place your Pixel within reach of the source of the audio you want to capture, like on the table in front of you if you’re having a conversation, and you hit record, Pixel will transcribe everything it hears right on-device, it’ll even differentiate between speakers (so you can visually see who said what), and once it processes, it’ll provide an AI summary of the conversation plus the ability to search for key things.<\/p>\n

The Recorder app on the Pixel is amazing, and I honestly don’t think I could live without it. Any time I need to remember a conversation, a meeting, or even an important live interview on the news, I use it to capture the audio and contents. I take screenshots frequently, not only for my job here on MUO, but whenever I see something important on my screen I want to remember, I screenshot it. Previous to using Pixel Screenshots, which uses AI to organize and make your library of screenshots searchable, my screenshots would just fill up my storage and offer me no benefit.<\/p>\n

With Pixel Screenshots, Google has created an app that turns screenshots into a hub of useful content that is easy to organize (the device will offer to organize the screenshots for you into Collections, if you want) and search.<\/p>\n

There are so many other Pixel AI features, such as the suite of phone features (Hold for Me, Call screening, Scam detection, etc) and plenty of Gemini integrations, not to mention still-unfinished features like Magic Cue and on-device image creation with Pixel Studio, but most of those other features I see as novelties that I try once then probably never use again. But the aforementioned features relating to camera Pro Res Zoom, plus helpful\/organization tools like Recorder, Pixel Screenshots and Live Caption are things I use all the time.<\/p>\n
