{"id":550435,"date":"2026-07-20T11:20:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-20T11:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/550435\/"},"modified":"2026-07-20T11:20:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T11:20:10","slug":"psychiatrist-to-repay-418000-in-rebates-after-misusing-rtms-medicare-items-psr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/550435\/","title":{"rendered":"Psychiatrist to repay $418,000 in rebates after misusing rTMS Medicare items: PSR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A psychiatrist will repay Medicare $418,000 after inappropriately billing Medicare for repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, charging administration fees to bulk-billed patients and letting another practitioner use their provider number.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The latest update from the Professional Services Review (PSR) says the psychiatrist came to its attention because they had billed repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) items more frequently than 99% of their colleagues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Items 14216 and 14219 \u2014 both with an 85% rebate of $182.30 \u2014 cover treatment mapping for initial and subsequent courses of rTMS, respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two other items, 14217 and 14220, provide rebates for up to 35 initial treatments and 15 subsequent treatments, respectively.
