Bobbie Glenn devoted more than 45 years to ECU North Hospital\u2019s radiology department.<\/p>\n
Today, the hospital dedicated the Emergency Department X-ray room in her honor.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a very proud moment for my family, especially for my mother and her accomplishments,\u201d her son, Matt said. \u201cShe dedicated over 45 years to the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bobbie, who died in January, was the leader of the family, Matt said. \u201cWe are very humbled that they would think about our mother. We miss her dearly and we\u2019re just so happy for her memory to live on with something like this with the passion she had.\u201d<\/p>\n
A plaque outside the radiology room reads, \u201cIn recognition of a devoted diagnostic radiology technologist, Bobbie Glenn, whose exceptional dedication and compassion profoundly impacted the lives of many. The ECU Health North Hospital X-ray room located in the Emergency Department, is established in her memory, continuing her legacy of care, mentorship, and service. Bobbie\u2019s contributions will be remembered with deep gratitude and enduring respect.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a program before the plaque unveiling, ECU North President Todd Hickey said, \u201cToday\u2019s an important milestone for ECU Health and our Emergency Department is something that we take a lot of pride in \u2014 the care we provide all of our patients, especially when you think about the moments of need they\u2019re in when they come into our Emergency Department.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the mission of the hospital is to do more and do better for the community and the patients the medical facility serves. \u201cWe take that so seriously \u2014 each patient’s experience and the time diagnosis is needed so that the right treatment plan can be implemented for patients.\u201d<\/p>\n
The X-ray room helps in that mission. \u201cIt allows us to have the most contemporary technology right in the heart of the Emergency Department so patients can progress quickly from the time they enter, through their diagnosis, right into their treatment so we can coordinate that care as best as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hickey said that Bobbie was a long-term care manager in radiology and worked many times in the Emergency Department. He noted that the hospital certainly appreciates all of its team members, but her presence, her mentorship, and her positive attitude all carry the kind of culture and patient care they are trying to build there each day.<\/p>\n
Barbara Moore, executive director of operations, said there was never a time when Bobbie didn\u2019t have a smile on her face. \u201cShe was a great friend to everybody. She was a dedicated and versatile radiology professional with experience across diagnostic, nuclear medicine, mammography, and ultrasound.\u201d<\/p>\n
She served as an assistant manager and provided leadership, support, and guidance to team members. \u201cShe acted as a key point of contact for radiology students, fostering learning and development. She contributed as a clinical coordinator, helping to shape and mentor future healthcare professionals. She provided essential support in the file room, ensuring organization and efficiency behind the scenes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bobbie assisted radiologists with hanging film and supported daily workflow operations, Moore said. \u201cShe played an important role in coordinating and organizing patient schedules. She was known and trusted and an invaluable source of radiology knowledge and expertise. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, demonstrating professionalism, dedication, and teamwork.\u201d<\/p>\n
Moore said Bobbie made a lasting impact on her colleagues and her department through her commitment and service.<\/p>\n
Robert Floyd said the first time he met Bobbie, \u201cIt was like shaking hands with a hurricane. I had just started as an X-ray student and was blown away by this lady who seemed to be able to do anything and everything.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bobbie was the clinical instructor, \u201cand probably taught us more than any X-ray textbook ever could. She was tough, but she was someone you learned a great deal from and you learned to respect.\u201d<\/p>\n
A few years before her retirement, Floyd recalled her working the second shift with him. \u201cI was a little bit intimidated but we got along great. Her only stipulation was that we have Chinese food every Friday night. Miss Bobbie is someone we still speak of. She was a teacher, coworker, and most of all, she was our friend.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Susan Ogburn didn\u2019t work in radiology, she said staff could always see her mentoring someone. \u201cShe took her job seriously, but she also had that humor. She would always make sure that she reached out to you and that she saw you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ogburn called her a person of integrity and a person who would bring others into the fold. \u201cI can see her walking down the hall right now with a smile and sometimes with a frown, saying, \u2018Don\u2019t do that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
William Navarro, imaging director, described Bobbie as a kind-hearted person who was always very bubbly. \u201cShe impressed me the most with her ability to influence others with her kind, but direct style while knowing exactly what her intent was. We miss her presence here very, very much, but we know that her influence on this hospital will be seen for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
