LeBron James\u2019s longtime agent says the NBA \u200c\u200csuperstar will decide on his next team when he\u2019s good and ready.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not going to \u2060\u2060be rushed,\u201d Rich Paul \u2060\u2060said on Monday night\u2019s episode of his Game Over podcast with sports broadcaster Max Kellerman. \u201cWe\u2019re not going to be rushed. It\u2019s his choice to make, and when he makes the choice, \u2060\u2060he\u2019ll make it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Paul also said that the teams that are courting the 22-time All-Star do not need to provide any more information at this time.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s been several people to call and say, \u2018Hey, Rich, \u2060\u2060is there anything more we should be doing? We could be doing?’\u201d he said. \u201cAnd my answer is, \u2018No. We don\u2019t need you to go above and beyond about anything. We understand it. It\u2019s clear. All the messages have been sent.’\u201d<\/p>\n
Tuesday marked three weeks since Paul told the Los Angeles Lakers that the 41-year-old forward was not \u200c\u200creturning to the team for his record-setting 24th NBA season and was entering free agency.<\/p>\n
Potential landing spots for the NBA\u2019s all-time leading scorer include the Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers or a possible return to the Miami Heat or Cleveland Cavaliers, ESPN reported.<\/p>\n
\u201cI won\u2019t hold you guys up too much longer,\u201d James said during a public appearance in New York last week.<\/p>\n
Paul said he addressed the situation with NBA commissioner Adam Silver, who said last Thursday that he wanted the \u2060\u2060four-time league MVP and four-time NBA champion \u201cto make his announcement already, so \u2060\u2060we can finish the schedule\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI saw Adam in New York, and we discussed it,\u201d Paul said. \u201cAnd like I said, it\u2019s still his choice. So if he doesn\u2019t really know, you can\u2019t rush it. You can\u2019t rush it.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the podcast, Paul insisted \u2060\u2060that James is not dragging out the process to build suspense, as was the case with his televised announcement in 2010 \u2014 hyped as \u201cThe Decision\u201d \u2014 that he \u2060\u2060was leaving the Cavaliers to join the Heat.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s \u2060\u2060important for people to understand: We\u2019re not making this about attention and a spectacle,\u201d Paul said. \u201cIt\u2019s not about a \u2018decision\u2019 or anything like that. He has a choice to make. He has a business choice to make. We\u2019re not going to sit here and \u200c\u200cdecide or allow someone else to decide when he makes that decision. \u2026 It\u2019s a business choice that he\u2019s making. And I think as an athlete, why is it that an athlete has to rush \u200c\u200chis \u200c\u200cchoice?\u201d<\/p>\n
James averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds in 60 games with the Lakers in 2025\u201326.
