The streamer\u00a0announced Thursday that\u00a0the Emmy<\/a>-winning\u00a0newsroom drama will\u00a0conclude with its\u00a0upcoming fifth\u00a0season, bringing the\u00a0long-running series led by Reese\u00a0Witherspoon and Jennifer\u00a0Aniston to a\u00a0close.<\/p>\n

“This\u00a0was always more\u00a0than a show\u00a0about a newsroom\u00a0\u2014 it was a\u00a0show about why\u00a0the newsroom matters. About freedom of\u00a0the press, and\u00a0the journalists who\u00a0protect the fourth\u00a0estate, often at\u00a0great cost. Telling\u00a0that story has\u00a0been the creative\u00a0privilege of my\u00a0career,” Witherspoon said in a statement provided to Gold Derby.<\/p>\n

We’ve become\u00a0such a family\u00a0and we’re all\u00a0so excited to\u00a0share this final\u00a0season. The story<\/p>\n

Apple TV declined to release any plot details about the fifth and final season, but it will presumably conclude the stories of morning news anchors Alexandra Levy (Aniston) and Bradley Jackson (Witherspoon), who began the series as rivals, but became friends and partners. <\/p>\n

The cast and creative team<\/p>\n

Alongside Witherspoon and\u00a0Aniston, the ensemble cast\u00a0includes two-time\u00a0Emmy winner Billy\u00a0Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen\u00a0Pittman, Nicole Beharie, and Jon Hamm. Season 5 will\u00a0also introduce several\u00a0new faces, including\u00a0Jeff Daniels, Rene\u00e9\u00a0Rapp, Jesse Williams, Sean Hayes, and\u00a0Lizzy Caplan.<\/p>\n
