LeBron James will join former Kia MVP center Joel Embiid in the 76ers\u2019 frontcourt in 2026-27.<\/p>\n
LeBron James is headed to the Philadelphia 76ers, the NBA superstar announced on social media today.<\/p>\n
In his posts, James said this will be his \u201clast decision\u201d and that it comes after he strongly considered retirement.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time,\u201d James said.<\/p>\n
A four-time NBA champion,\u00a0James\u00a0wrote he was \u201cdone\u201d when his 23rd NBA season ended and that it was his last with the Los Angeles Lakers.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was pretty sure I played my last game. I was honest at that last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and deicide if I still love this game,\u201d James wrote. \u201cI still truly love this game, and I have more to give.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 76ers should boast one of the top starting fives in the NBA with fellow All-Stars Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown, the 2024 NBA Finals MVP, a five-time All-Star and the league\u2019s fourth-leading scorer this past season acquired in a stunning offseason deal with the Celtics.<\/p>\n Maxey made the All-NBA team last season, Embiid is a former Kia MVP winner and the Sixers also boast a standout youngster in All-Rookie First Team selection VJ Edgecombe.<\/p>\n This will mark the fourth team in James\u2019 career after he spent time with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and, most recently, the Los Angeles Lakers. He told the Lakers on June 30<\/a> he would not be returning to the team and remained the biggest name in free agency until he announced his decision today.<\/p>\n Sixteen years after his first famed \u201cdecision\u201d \u2014 the one that saw him leave Cleveland for Miami \u2014 James changed uniforms once again. In late June, he told the Lakers that his eight-year run with them was over and that he would play a record-extending 24th NBA season elsewhere.<\/p>\n James has made clear many times in recent years that more championships are his motivation.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t know what the future holds for me, obviously, as it stands right now, tonight,\u201d James said after the Lakers\u2019 115-110 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals ended their season. \u201cI\u2019ve got a lot of time. He also became the first player in the league to have a son as a teammate, with Bronny James playing alongside him<\/a> with the Lakers.<\/p>\n The list of James\u2019 accolades to this point is beyond comparison.<\/p>\n He\u2019s a 22-time All-Star, a 21-time All-NBA selection<\/a>, a four-time Kia Most Valuable Player<\/a>, a four-time NBA Finals MVP<\/a>, the NBA\u2019s all-time leading scorer<\/a>, a three-time All-Star Game MVP<\/a>, and was part of the NBA\u2019s 75th Anniversary Team<\/a>. He\u2019s coming off a season where he averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game, and for his career, he\u2019s averaged 26.8 ppg, 7.5 rpg and 7.4 apg in more than 1,600 games.<\/p>\n
