Earnings season kicked into warp overdrive this past week. And it won’t be any easier to navigate the market next week, with results from the likes of Amazon (AMZN<\/a>), Meta (META<\/a>), and Microsoft (MSFT<\/a>).\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Here are a few observations about last week’s stock moves from Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace<\/a> that may get your mind right heading into another frenzied week for investing.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Alphabet stock gets drop-kicked\u00a0 <\/p>\n

So much for the many positives on the AI front from Alphabet’s (GOOG<\/a>, GOOGL<\/a>) second quarter earnings report.<\/a> <\/p>\n

The market couldn’t have cared less.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Alphabet’s second quarter capital expenditures<\/a> came in at $44.9 billion, slightly above Wall Street forecasts of $44.7 billion. Full-year capex guidance was raised to $195 billion to $205 billion from $180 billion to $190 billion, with a “significant” increase seen for 2027, executives said on the earnings call.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Alphabet stock blew up on Thursday, falling 7.13% and erasing about $293 billion in market value on that day.\u00a0The earnings rout sent shares below the key 200-day moving average, according to AlphaSpace data.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

\"A<\/a> Intel shocks <\/p>\n

Intel (INTC<\/a>) has officially reawakened from the grave.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

The company notched its strongest revenue growth rate<\/a> in 15 years in the second quarter. Revenue in all business segments beat Wall Street forecasts. Importantly, Intel’s once floundering chipmaking business continues to improve: Sales in the foundry segment rose 30.5% year over year. <\/p>\n

It has been much discussed, but the quarter returns the spotlight on the savvy move the US government made in taking an equity stake in Intel on Aug. 22, 2025. <\/p>\n

Under the agreement, the Trump administration converted previously awarded \u2014 but not yet disbursed \u2014 CHIPS Act and Secure Enclave funding into an $8.9 billion investment in Intel common stock, giving the federal government a 9.9% nonvoting ownership stake. Including earlier CHIPS Act payments, the total federal commitment to Intel reached $11.1 billion. <\/p>\n

Since then, Intel stock has skyrocketed 320% \u2014 or has gone up and to the right, as seen on the AlphaSpace chart below. <\/p>\n

\"An<\/a> Tesla gets run over <\/p>\n

The market’s concerns about the pace of tech companies’ AI spending found its way to Elon Musk’s Tesla (TSLA<\/a>), which makes sense.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

The company said it will commit $25 billion in capital expenditures<\/a> for 2026, roughly three times its historical spending.
