Jordan Devey, a retired NFL<\/a> offensive lineman who won a Super Bowl with the New \u2060England Patriots, died at age 38.<\/p>\n

According to a GoFundMe page started to benefit his wife, \u2060Linsey, and their four \u2060young children, \u200bDevey \u201ctook his own life\u201d. As of Saturday morning, the fund had collected more than $92,000 of its $200,000 \u2060goal.<\/p>\n

Devey was the rare NFL player who didn\u2019t play high school football, giving up the sport after junior \u2060high. Afflicted by a disease that causes knee inflammation and pain in \u200bchildren and teens, Devey \u200cplayed tuba in the \u200cschool band.<\/p>\n

After a two-year mission with the Church of Latter Day \u200cSaints, he enrolled in Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, and played two years of football since his knee issue had lessened. He transferred to Memphis for his final two seasons, then signed with the Baltimore Ravens after being unselected in the 2013 NFL \u200cdraft.<\/p>\n

The Patriots signed the 6ft 7in Devey to their practice squad that September and promoted him to the active \u200broster in 2014 \u2013 the same season New England defeated the Seattle Seahawks to win Super Bowl XLIX.<\/p>\n

He played with the San Francisco 49ers in 2015, appearing in a career-high 15 games (nine starts), then followed \u2060with stops with the Kansas City Chiefs, then-Oakland Raiders and \u200bBuffalo Bills through \u200bthe 2020 season. In \u200ball, he played in 44 NFL games (21 starts).<\/p>\n

Following his \u200bcareer, he volunteered \u200cas a coach \u200bof his \u200bkids\u2019 teams and coached high school football coach in Idaho.<\/p>\n
