\n Iranian officials have ramped up their threats towards Kyiv after this weekend\u2019s attack<\/a> by Ukraine on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea, the route for much of the country\u2019s trade with Russia.\n <\/p>\n

\n Three crew members were injured and one seafarer killed aboard the ship, Iran\u2019s regional governor Hadi Hagh-Shenas said on Sunday.\n <\/p>\n

\n The vessel had been carrying a cargo of iron and was sailing from Astrakhan to Anzali, \u201ca safe and reliable corridor for commercial exchanges between the two ports,\u201d Hagh-Shenas said.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cAny attack on Iran always comes with a cost, and that remains true today; the U.S. and Israel are well aware of this,\u201d the head of the Iranian parliament\u2019s national security, Ebrahim Azizi, wrote on X. \u201cUkraine, too, may soon come to understand that Iran does not let actions go unanswered.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Iran\u2019s foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, also lashed out at Ukraine\u2019s leader, Volodymyr Zelensky.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cZelenskyy has attacked an Iranian commercial vessel, killing a sailor. A blatant UN Charter violation done at Israel\u2019s behest to drag Europe into its war,\u201d wrote on X<\/a> Sunday. \u201cWhat the freeloader in Kyiv did CANNOT GO UNANSWERED.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Some background: Ukraine on Saturday said it had struck ships in the waterway that were transporting military goods from Iran to Russia.\n <\/p>\n

\n Ukraine had \u201cachieved very good results from long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea,\u201d Zelensky said in a post on X.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cSpecifically, these include ships that were involved in transporting military cargo from Iran, as well as a warship,\u201d Zelensky said.\n <\/p>\n

\n Iranian officials have said that the United States has also recently attacked facilities on the Caspian Sea.
