Inside Las Cabbalos\u2019 expressive social identity for Public Records"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-block-key=\"neghn\">The identity borrows from <a href=\"https:\/\/wisetype.nl\/typefaces\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">WiseType<\/a>, Jacob Wise\u2019s foundry, using it\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/wisetype.nl\/typefaces\/garamono\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Garamono typeface<\/a>, which captures a kind of timelessness in its serif letterforms, accentuating a mystery in the way its strokes hold weight and details that don\u2019t immediately place it in any one era. \u201cRitual was a big part of the thinking behind this project overall, and typographically we were looking for that same quality: forms that feel deliberate, almost ceremonial, rather than purely functional,\u201d says Nico. \u201cIt was the first typeface the studio thought of. It handled that strangeness, that sense of time, better than anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"4634i\">The identity features minimal, but highly expressive illustrative elements that look like block prints \u2013 although the studio works mostly in digital formats, that doesn\u2019t hinder its penchant for physicality and design roots in poster making and screen printing. \u201cWe made a huge number of illustrations and assets, almost like a game with no fixed objective. Once we had a surplus of them, we built out a set that lets the Public Records team play with these illustrations, almost like objects, within the identity system,\u201d says Nico. Nico says the studio \u201cthinks of pixels and colour as materials too\u201d, which adds a richness to the identity\u2019s textures.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"3ts39\">Deconstructed figurative illustrations depict the in-between of movement and dance, suggesting they\u2019re both one in the same.
