{"id":562114,"date":"2026-07-27T16:35:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T16:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/562114\/"},"modified":"2026-07-27T16:35:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T16:35:08","slug":"australian-gymnast-kate-mcdonald-wins-second-gold-at-commonwealth-games-commonwealth-games-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/562114\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian gymnast Kate McDonald wins second gold at Commonwealth Games | Commonwealth Games 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Artistic gymnast Kate McDonald\u2019s quest for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/commonwealth-games\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Commonwealth Games<\/a> redemption is complete after she won uneven bars gold for Australia on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">McDonald banished haunting memories of her sub-par finish at the 2022 Birmingham Games with a near-flawless performance at Glasgow International Stadium, scoring 14.333 points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">So dominant was the 25-year-old that she was the only gymnast to hit the 14.000-point mark and blitzed next-best, Canadian great Ellie Black, by 0.433 points, with Wales\u2019 Emily Roper following for bronze.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Finishing seventh on the uneven bars in 2022, McDonald has now made it two from two events in Glasgow after winning the team gold medal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">It was Australia\u2019s second artistic gymnastics medal on day four of competition, with James Hardy claiming bronze in the floor exercise routine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Hardy outdid his qualifying score with 13.433 points, winning his first individual medal and second bronze medal on debut at the Games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Just as the team bronze was Australia\u2019s first since the 2010 Delhi Games, Hardy\u2019s floor medal ended the nation\u2019s 16-year drought on the apparatus in the men\u2019s field.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Jesse Moore also added to Australia\u2019s medal haul the day prior, winning individual all-around bronze.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Hardy competed with a pink ribbon painted on the nail of his right hand ring finger in tribute to mum Sally, who was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Sally is in remission after undergoing surgery, but she and the Hardy family were unable to travel to Glasgow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">The 23-year-old did enjoy ample support from the rest of the Australian squad in the crowd, with teammates Moore, Ritam Malik, Ben Foster and Tru Hagens also painting their nails.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Malik missed out on pommel horse bronze by 0.500 points, while Moore finished second-last in seventh after falling off the apparatus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">A sore Georgia Godwin fell short in her vault title defence, finishing fifth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">McDonald\u2019s teammate Ruby Pass, aged 19, finished last in eighth after a fall during her uneven bars routine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Artistic gymnast Kate McDonald\u2019s quest for Commonwealth Games redemption is complete after she won uneven bars gold for&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":562115,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[85,46,105],"class_list":["post-562114","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-sports","tag-il","tag-israel","tag-sports"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/562114","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=562114"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/562114\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/562115"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=562114"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=562114"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=562114"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
