July 28 (Reuters) – Hong Kong-listed Keymed Biosciences said on Tuesday a late-stage trial of sonesitatug \u200cvedotin, a therapy targeting treatment for advanced \u200cor metastatic gastric cancer, has achieved positive topline results. <\/p>\n
The therapy \u200bis being developed by KYM Biosciences, a joint venture between Keymed and Lepu Biopharma, in collaboration with London-listed AstraZeneca. <\/p>\n
Sonesitatug vedotin demonstrated a “highly clinically meaningful improvement” \u200cin overall survival \u2060compared to standard chemotherapy in its global Phase III clinical trial, Keymed said. <\/p>\n
The \u2060company said that the drug met a primary endpoint of overall survival for third or later-line \u200btreatment, as \u200bwell as the key \u200bsecondary endpoint of overall \u200csurvival in the trial population for second or later-line treatments. <\/p>\n
However, the drug did not achieve statistical significance in its other primary goal of progression-free survival \u2014 the time a patient lives without the \u200cdisease worsening \u2014 though it did \u200bshow an improving trend, Lepu \u200bsaid. <\/p>\n
The drug was \u200bwell-tolerated with no new safety concerns, \u200cboth Keymed and Lepu said \u200bin exchange \u200bfilings. <\/p>\n
Based on the positive clinical trial results, AstraZeneca has announced that the estimated peak sales \u200bfor the \u200cproduct will be between $3.0 billion and $5.0 billion, Keymed \u200bsaid. <\/p>\n
