A masked individual shattered the glass entrance doors of Channel 12 News’ headquarters in Tel Aviv overnight on Tuesday in the second such incident<\/a> this month.<\/p>\n

A letter was found at the scene that appeared to have been left by the vandal, calling on the news outlet to “apologize over the Sde Teiman affair,” warning that if an apology isn’t issued, “the next brick will be aimed at one of your heads.”<\/p>\n

“Even an apology that isn’t heartfelt is fine. Take this letter with the utmost seriousness. Otherwise, someone will end up dead,” the letter stated.<\/p>\n

Police<\/a> officers called to the site opened an investigation on suspicion of property damage. No suspect has been arrested at this stage, and the individual’s identity remains unknown, according to police sources.<\/p>\n

Security camera footage showed the suspect approaching the building with their face covered, carrying two bricks and throwing them one after the other at the entrance doors. The impact shattered the glass doors<\/a>, and the suspect fled before police arrived.<\/p>\n

President Isaac Herzog spoke with Israel Police Commissioner Daniel Levy following the attack and told him, “We must not accept a reality in which violence is used as a tool to intimidate and silence voices. Harming any media outlet is an attack on democracy.”<\/p>\n

He also demanded that the police take swift and determined action to locate those responsible and bring them to justice, as well as sending a message of “zero tolerance for violence and attempts at intimidation.”<\/p>\n

“Free communication is a cornerstone of democracy, especially during an election period,” said a message shared in social media by Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid.<\/p>\n

“An attempt to harm employees of a news outlet in Israel is a red line, and the Israel Police must address it immediately and with the utmost severity,” it added. “In the next government, we will safeguard freedom of the press and will not allow intimidation of journalists. Together, we will repair.”<\/p>\n

Israel Police released a statement saying that Commissioner Daniel Levi views the incident with utmost severity, viewing it as a grave violation of democratic values and press freedom.<\/p>\n

The announcement said that the commander of the Tel Aviv district has been instructed to utilize all available resources to locate, arrest, and prosecute the perpetrator.<\/p>\n

Vandalism of glass door follows multiple incidents of graffiti<\/p>\n

In addition to being the second time in a month the doors were shattered, this event follows several acts of graffiti<\/a> targeting the news company in recent months.<\/p>\n

In one such incident, graffiti was sprayed reading: “To the criminal police and the channels of injustice and foolishness against those who study the holy Torah, I will settle the score with you. Consider yourselves warned, sons of death.”<\/p>\n

Police also opened an investigation in that case on suspicion of vandalism, but the suspect has not yet been identified.<\/p>\n

Similar incidents targeting media organizations have occurred in the past.
