{"id":564988,"date":"2026-07-29T09:14:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T09:14:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/564988\/"},"modified":"2026-07-29T09:14:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T09:14:12","slug":"if-you-struggle-to-sit-cross-legged-a-pilates-instructor-suggests-opening-your-hips-with-these-four-exercises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/564988\/","title":{"rendered":"If you struggle to sit cross-legged, a Pilates instructor suggests opening your hips with these four exercises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"elk-6765e0e6-8449-11f1-b553-8181f3687795\">If you ever look wistfully back on the days you had the hip mobility to sit cheerfully for long periods cross-legged, you are not alone.<\/p>\n<p>Most adults rarely sit in that position and some have lost the range of motion to even try.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-6765e0e6-8449-11f1-b553-8181f3687795-2\">Jill Drummond, a NASM-certified personal trainer and vice president of fitness at <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/bodybarpilates.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/bodybarpilates.com\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">BODYBAR Pilates<\/a>, explains that a cross-legged position requires a combination of hip joint mobility, and muscle flexibility and strength.<\/p>\n<p>Latest Videos FromFit&amp;Well<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf any of these qualities are compromised, an individual may experience tight hips and difficulty sitting cross-legged,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo combat this, we must address tightness and strength in the glutes, hip flexors, inner thighs, hamstrings and surrounding connective tissue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            You may like<\/p>\n<p>She notes that if the natural shape of your hip joint also contributes to immobility, rather than your muscles, then a cross-legged position may never be the most comfortable position for you.<\/p>\n<p>That said, you can still benefit from hip strengthening and stretching and can still gain some additional range of motion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Start your week with achievable workout ideas, health tips and wellbeing advice in your inbox.<\/p>\n<p>Drummond recommends trying the following movements to create more space and ease in your hips.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-1-elevated-glute-bridge\"\/>1.
