Claire Foy has been announced for a new BBC rom-com drama. You Are Here is based on One Day author David Nicholls’s book of the same name, and follows two people who set off on the Coast to Coast trail between the Lake District and North Yorkshire’s Robin Hood’s Bay.<\/p>\n

The Crown’s Foy will play the role of Marnie opposite Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen as Michael, two people who are thrown together by a mutual friend and “unexpectedly find themselves setting off on an epic walk”.<\/p>\n

“Against the odds, they end up on the brink of a relationship that neither was looking for, but which might be exactly the one they both need,” the synopsis adds.<\/p>\n

The story is “about finding a connection when you least expect it and overcoming the obstacles of midlife” as Marnie and Michael tread “the tricky path from loneliness to love” and navigate “an undeniable attraction that is as exhilarating as it is terrifying”.<\/p>\n

Nicholls is adapting his own book into eight episodes with Normal People’s Lenny Abrahamson set to direct, while filming will take place in the Lake District and around Manchester.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m\u202fso\u202fdelighted to be working on You Are Here with Element, the BBC,\u202fStarz\u202fand Lenny, whose work \u202fI\u2019ve\u202fadmired for many years,” Nicholls said. “And Matthew and Claire are both just dream casting, wonderful in comedy and drama, so detailed and thoughtful and sympathetic.<\/p>\n

“The intention with the novel was to write a close-up study of a relationship, but set against this magnificent landscape, and\u202fthat\u2019s\u202four ambition here too; to make something both intimate and epic, funny and dramatic, a romantic comedy with real emotion. We\u202fcan\u2019t\u202fwait to bring Marnie and Michael\u2019s journey to the screen.”<\/p>\n

Abrahamson said he was “delighted” to collaborate with Nicholls, calling the original novel “such a beautiful love story” that is “funny, profound and ultimately deeply hopeful”, and also revealed he was “extremely excited” to work with Foy and Macfadyen.<\/p>\n
