And there is no substantial rain forecast.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cms7gbr2700023b6rbeckaogk@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThe hot and dry weather means we are currently using water faster than nature can replenish it,\u201d said Helen Wakeham, director of water at the Environment Agency. Parts of the River Thames are tracking at record lows, while other waterways have seen an increase in algae growth as water temperatures rise.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cms7gdvfg000a3b6rhkcksvh6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Farmers and experts are warning of a detrimental impact on food production. \u201cThe drought could have a direct knock-on effect on food supplies,\u201d said Pauline Scheelbeek, associate professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cms7dgj9l0005356rpb5xj688@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cRepeated disruption to vegetable production could make healthy food less affordable for households and have lasting effects on public health,\u201d Scheelbeek added.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/01kyprw38dap6xd74awwc49jzp.jpg\" alt=\"Water levels in rivers and canals have reduced and algae has grown through rising water temperatures.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"1333\" width=\"2000\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cms7geyfn000e3b6rnbqb5lmc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            England has now experienced three droughts in the past five years, with 2026 joining 2022 and 2025.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cms7dgj9l0007356rfm9t9ktn@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But the country, famed for its gloomy skies and persistent rain, is also having to deal with very wet weather.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cms7dgj9m0008356ri4hxwrst@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Last winter was England\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/about-us\/news-and-media\/media-centre\/weather-and-climate-news\/2026\/dull-and-mild-february-brings-a-wet-winter-to-a-close\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">eighth wettest <\/a>on record, with rainfall 42% higher than the long-term average for the season.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cms7dgj9m0009356rypcgzqh4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Then came a dramatic shift, when exceptional heat arrived. Last month was England\u2019s hottest June on record, as it sweltered under a heat wave that would have been virtually impossible without climate change, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/06\/26\/climate\/european-heat-wave-impossible-global-warming\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">scientists found<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cms7dgj9m000a356r4zppi3lh@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            On Wednesday, the Met Office confirmed a new England June daily temperature record of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/about-us\/news-and-media\/media-centre\/weather-and-climate-news\/2026\/new-june-daily-temperature-records-heading-into-the-record-books\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">38 degrees Celsius<\/a> (100.4 Fahrenheit) had been verified, higher than the 37.7 degrees Celsius (99.86 Fahrenheit) previously recorded.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/gettyimages-2287506732.jpg\" alt=\"People shelter from the sun as the nation endures record-high temperatures.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"1333\" width=\"2000\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cms7gpzuj000g3b6rhy54nvpi@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Scientists say the swing between wet and dry extremes \u2014 often called \u201cweather whiplash\u201d \u2014 is becoming more frequent and intense.
