[solitary dev] is helping to rectify that problem by building <a href=\"https:\/\/hackaday.io\/project\/206205-tongdou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a little robot called TongDou<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As [solitary dev] tells it, TongDou is a \u201ctiny open-source desktop gremlin.\u201d An ESP32-S3 serves as TongDou\u2019s brain, buried inside a tasteful brass tube chassis. An OLED display is TongDou\u2019s face, and he uses a pair of wheels driven by gearmotors for locomotion. A speaker plays back pre-recorded voice lines, while a 24GHz radar and an IMU enables TongDou to keep track of the space it\u2019s moving through. They are publishing the design files <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/solitary-dev-50\/tongdou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">on Github<\/a> so other makers can build their own if so desired.<\/p>\n<p>[solitary dev] hopes to develop TongDou into something to make a \u201cworkspace feel less dead.\u201d It\u2019s not dissimilar from the way studios used to use robots to liven up otherwise hackneyed movies and TV shows, and we could absolutely use some of that whimsy in the real world.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hackaday.com\/2026\/06\/28\/reachy-mini-desktop-robot-gets-all-local-conversational-ai\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">We\u2019ve featured other fun desktop companions before, too<\/a>.
