Montreal<\/a> police are investigating a suspected arson attack on a kosher restaurant in Montreal’s C\u00f4te-des-Neiges\u2013Notre-Dame-de-Gr\u00e2ce borough (CDN-NDG) that occured on Saturday morning, CBC News reported over the weekend.<\/p>\n

CBC, citing Montreal Police Service (SPVM) Spokesperson Raphael Bergeron, said that the two-alarm fire broke out at around 3:15 a.m. at the N\u00f6am restaurant on Montreal’s D\u00e9carie Boulevard.<\/p>\n

Bergeron added that preliminary investigations show evidence of an individual being present at the start of the fire, while a video seen by CBC appeared to show a “man in a white T-shirt and dark pants seemingly starting a fire and running away.”<\/p>\n

No one was injured in the fire<\/a>, according to CBC, though the building itself suffered considerable damage.<\/p>\n

Howard Szalavetz, the owner of the building, told CBC he “find[s] it hard to believe it wasn’t antisemitism<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

Quebec Liberal MP Anthony Housefather called on the fire to be investigated as an antisemitic hate crime in a post to X\/Twitter.<\/p>\n
