Phil Collins<\/a> has recalled being blown away by Taylor Swift\u2019s musical prowess years before she became an international pop superstar<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The British drummer and singer<\/a>, 75, heaped praise on the \u201cOpalite\u201d hitmaker, 36, during a recent appearance on BBC Radio 2\u2019s Tracks of My Years with Vernon Kay.<\/p>\n

Collins shared that he was first introduced to Swift by his daughter, Emily in Paris star Lily Collins,<\/a> at the 2010 Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d kind of known the name, but she wasn\u2019t anywhere near the star she is today, a very nice lady,\u201d the rocker said of Swift. \u201cThen she got up on stage with a guitar and sang \u2018White Horse.\u2019<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer <\/a>remembered the performance \u201cblew me away completely, because not only was the song great and the sentiment of the song, it really got me, but she sang it beautifully and it was just so simple, you know, her and the guitar.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 2008 song, featured on Swift\u2019s second studio album, Fearless, is about the painful reality of heartbreak and the difficult realization that love is not a fairytale. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always had a soft spot for the song since then,\u201d Collins admitted of the track, which he included on his list of 10 songs that have soundtracked his life as part of the BBC radio show.<\/p>\n

His list of choices also included The Beach Boys\u2019 \u201cGod Only Knows,\u201d The Who\u2019s \u201cWon\u2019t Get Fooled Again,\u201d The Beatles\u2019 \u201cI Want to Hold Your Hand\u201d and Stevie Wonder\u2019s \u201cUptight.\u201d<\/p>\n

In June, Swift became the youngest woman to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame<\/a>. Wonder remains the youngest person ever inducted, having entered the Hall at age 32 in 1983.<\/p>\n

During her acceptance speech, Swift said her songwriting talent was \u201cinstinctual. No one taught me how to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Collins, meanwhile, was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003. He was later awarded the organization\u2019s highest distinction<\/a>, the Johnny Mercer Award, at the 2010 ceremony. <\/p>\n

The \u201cAnother Day in Paradise\u201d artist recently completed a seven-month stay in intensive care<\/a>. Opening up about the health scare in a new interview with The Sunday Times, Collins, who has been open about his addiction to alcohol in the past<\/a>, revealed the recent hospital stay was the result of a relapse. <\/p>\n

\u201cMy kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up. People were coming to say goodbye,\u201d he said, adding that he was on life support. <\/p>\n

Collins told the publication that his pancreas is permanently scarred and his kidneys \u201cbarely function,\u201d but he also suffers from other health problems following a serious spinal injury in 2007.
