LIV Golf CEO Scott O\u2019Neil announced Wednesday that LIV Golf has secured a new investor in the golf league, injecting much needed capital into the league after the Saudi Public Investment Fund pulled<\/a> funding for the league back in April. The announcement came from O\u2019Neil at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, the site of this week\u2019s LIV Golf New York Tournament.<\/p>\n O\u2019Neil said Wednesday, “LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players,”<\/p>\n “We’re also seeing strong interest from more than a dozen additional parties to potentially serve as minority investors, creating a multi-partner model built for long-term stability and growth.<\/p>\n “Notably, our next chapter will make our players the majority equity holders in LIV Golf, a first for a major global sports league, and gives the League the foundation to keep growing the game worldwide. We anticipate finalizing terms in the coming weeks, with the goal of entering a transaction in September. In the meantime, our focus is on delivering a great week for fans and players at Bedminster and finishing the 2026 season strong.”<\/p>\n Previous reports indicated that O\u2019Neil was seeking<\/a> between $250 million to $300 million to keep LIV Golf going. However, O\u2019Neil did not identify the investor, nor how much money would be invested into the league. <\/p>\n The funding news comes during a turbulent time for LIV Golf, as it was reported that LIV Golf may be soon filing for bankruptcy<\/a> in order to restructure its debts, and that it still owes hundreds of millions of dollars to certain star players including Jon Rahm. Three events remain on the 2026 LIV Golf calendar, including New York, Indianapolis, and Michigan. <\/p>\n O\u2019Neil\u2019s announcement notably states that LIV golfers will become equity shareholders in LIV Golf. The apparent funding would help drive O\u2019Neil\u2019s vision of LIV 2.0<\/a>, a scaled-down version of the current league with five team majors and five United States-based team signature events.<\/p>\n
