Ahead of its return later this month<\/a>, Ludwig has announced an exciting new guest star. And it seems that he may be butting heads with David Mitchell’s puzzle maker!<\/p>\n

The BBC has revealed that Stephen Merchant will join the series, taking on the role of “cocky snooker champion Danny Sloane” who is “at odds with John Ludwig”.<\/p>\n

Some first look pictures are below, while the broadcaster also confirmed that Sloane will pop up in the fourth episode of season two<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the new episodes, Mitchell’s Ludwig is now a Crime Scene Consultant after the events of the first season, with the character no longer having to disguise himself as his missing twin brother.<\/p>\n

“Now that he’s an official employee of the station, John is forbidden from using any police resources to look for his brother or uncover exactly what he was investigating,” the synopsis adds.<\/p>\n

“Of course, John won’t stop, and neither will Lucy, John’s sister-in-law and wife of his missing brother James – a puzzle needs solving and a husband and father needs bringing home. One masquerade may have ended, but a new one has just begun.”<\/p>\n

Anna Maxwell Martin also returns as Lucy Betts-Taylor, while new cast additions include Mark Bonnar as newspaper editor Gareth Fisher, Sian Clifford as local MP Joanne Kemper, Ben Ashenden as DC Ethan Cole, and Rumi Sutton as DC Caitlin Sullivan.<\/p>\n

The first season of Ludwig was a huge hit when it was released in 2024, becoming the BBC’s biggest comedy launch in six years.<\/p>\n

Speaking upon the show’s season two renewal, Mitchell said: “I am delighted that Ludwig will be returning to solve more of Mark Brotherhood\u2019s brilliant mysteries. I can\u2019t wait to get started and have renewed the subscription on my denouement-learning app.”<\/p>\n

Ludwig season two will air on BBC One at 9pm on Thursday 20 August, and will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer from the same date.<\/p>\n
