A fire reported at a refinery belonging to the state oil giant Aramco has been extinguished, authorities in Saudi Arabia say.<\/p>\n

The blaze broke out early on Sunday at a site in the city of Jizan on the Red Sea, the Saudi Ministry of Energy wrote in a statement on X. No casualties were reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe competent authorities are completing the necessary procedures to deal with the incident,\u201d the ministry added.<\/p>\n

It did not say what caused the fire.<\/p>\n

Later, Yemen\u2019s Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed the attack on the facility, located near Yemen\u2019s border with Saudi Arabia, as the latest in a series of strikes claimed by the group<\/a> on Saudi oil sites.<\/p>\n

A military spokesman for the Houthi-led government in the capital, Sanaa, Yahya Saree, wrote on X the group \u201csucceeded in targeting the Aramco refinery in Jizan with a drone, and the strike was precise\u201d.<\/p>\n

He said the attack came in response to Saudi Arabia\u2019s \u201cbreach of the airspace of the provinces of Saada and Hajjah\u201d with drones.<\/p>\n

There was no immediate comment on the claim from Riyadh. Al Jazeera has contacted the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n

The Houthis last month claimed attacks<\/a> on Aramco facilities in Jizan. They also said they targeted oil installations in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia\u2019s principal west coast export gateway.<\/p>\n

Aramco chief Amin Nasser said last \u2060week that recent attacks on the company\u2019s facilities had caused some production interruptions but he was confident operations could be restored quickly. He said the attacks \u200chad no material operational or financial impact.<\/p>\n

The attacks have added to growing strains on a 2022 truce in the war between the Houthis and Yemen\u2019s internationally recognised government, which is backed by Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n

The Houthis, who took control of Sanaa in 2014, also declared a blockade on Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea last month, threatening shipping through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.<\/p>\n

Later on Sunday, the Houthis said they carried out an attack on \u201cSaudi enemy\u201d soldiers and equipment in Yemen\u2019s Red Sea port city of al-Makha.<\/p>\n

Saree said the attack used a \u201clarge number of ballistic missiles and drones\u201d.<\/p>\n

Yemen\u2019s Ministry of Transport condemned the attack, which it said used \u201cseveral ballistic missiles and drones, causing serious damage to the port\u2019s infrastructure\u201d.<\/p>\n

There was no immediate comment from Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Riyadh signed<\/a> a defence pact with Turkiye and Pakistan amid rising regional tensions from the United States-Israel war on Iran.<\/p>\n
