Doctor Who legends Christopher Eccleston<\/a> and Billie Piper<\/a> are back in business with another audio adventure \u2013 and now they’ve welcomed Good Omens<\/a> star Doon Mackichan to the fray!<\/p>\n

The BAFTA-winning actress, who starred as Archangel Michael in Good Omens, is joining the voice cast of Doctor Who \u2013 The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Dark Tides as Dr Vivian Rest, the sole survivor aboard a long-lost mapping ship that’s drifted back into normal space.<\/p>\n

It marks the second time she’s worked with Eccleston, as the pair previously starred together in the 1999 film With or Without You.<\/p>\n

Of course, Eccleston and Piper reprise their roles as the Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler in the audio adventure, which is written by Tim Foley and will see the pair venture into deep space, where they find the long-lost mapping ship the Vesterbold. Its crew are all gone, except for one.<\/p>\n

Mackichan said: \u201cIt was fantastic working with Chris, and I love working in the audio medium. This story\u2019s definitely got a claustrophobic feel, where everyone\u2019s trapped and can\u2019t get off, and the dark forces are at play.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eccleston added: “I like the idea here, with old-fashioned knights on a Holy Grail-like quest. And then we have Doon Mackichan, who I first worked with in 1998, in a fantastic part \u2013 very charismatic, amusing and oddly endearing, even though she\u2019s completely merciless. There\u2019s a bit of flirting too, which my Doctor is always very keen to do!\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Piper went on to say: “This feels like very familiar Doctor Who 2005 territory to me. It reminded me of episodes like The Girl in the Fireplace, with the clockwork men. I absolutely love the character of Vivian \u2013 it\u2019s really fun to have a sassy female character, she reminds me of Cassandra from The End of the World.\u201d<\/p>\n

The synopsis for the story reads: “A long-lost ship, the Vesterbold, has returned to normal space. And the Knights of Atlas seek her
treasure. But two strangers have joined their expedition \u2013 the Doctor and Rose, who warn of danger.<\/p>\n

“For the Vesterbold has drifted free of the Dark Tides at the edge of the universe. And she may have brought something back with her. Not even the bravest knights are ready for the evil which lies inside…”<\/p>\n

Eccleston and Piper starred together in Doctor Who in 2005, when Russell T Davies<\/a> brought the series back to screens.<\/p>\n

It was announced last year that the pair would reunite for a series of Doctor Who audio adventures, with Eccleston saying: “I am so happy to be back recording more adventures for the Ninth Doctor with Billie. I don’t think my Doctor exists without Rose.<\/p>\n

“He’s a ‘one man, one companion’ kind of alien. We’ve explored him on his own at Big Finish, as a loner. But there’s a resilience and a bravery and a deep empathy to Billie as Rose, that’s why I do this. They complete each other.”<\/p>\n
