\u201cSo let me get this straight,\u201d former Sunrise host David Koch typed out on Instagram<\/a> within hours of the 66th TV Week Logie Awards nominations<\/a> list being published in June.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter nominees for this year\u2019s Logies contains both Today hosts but neither Sunrise hosts. A couple of facts you may have missed; Sunrise has won every single day this year … This has been going on for years. If you ever complain you\u2019re seen as a bad sport. But now I\u2019m out of it I can say … honestly WTF?\u201d (No personality directly linked to Seven, which broadcasts the event, is nominated for a Gold Logie this year<\/a> either).<\/p>\n

For three days, Seven\u2019s snubs was the biggest controversy new Logies host Robert Irwin<\/a> \u2013 who is also a Gold Logie nominee, again \u2013 could have tackled if he decides to take a leaf out of former host (and fellow Gold Logie nominee) Sam Pang\u2019s book and deliver a biting opening monologue<\/a> on Sunday night. Then Nine axed Karl Stefanovic\u2019s multimillion-dollar contract<\/a>, and all bets were off. Or are they?<\/p>\n

Tasked with making the Logies cool enough for the TikTok generation to tune in<\/a> to free-to-air television, 22-year-old Irwin may have to rely on more than his in-built charm to achieve that. Perhaps he\u2019ll reference his recent Dancing with the Stars US victory<\/a> and go for an Oscars-style opening number. Maybe, like his late father Steve Irwin, he\u2019ll bring a snake on stage<\/a>. Perhaps he\u2019ll just rip off his shirt<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Whatever his strategy, it\u2019s unlikely the nicest guy in the country<\/a> will address the fallout from the Stefanovic disaster (the former Today host, who is a nominee for the very award that kicked off Koch\u2019s tirade, isn\u2019t attending the event). He probably won\u2019t touch on Kyle Sandilands\u2019 \u2013 who joined Stefanovic in controversial independent podcaster land<\/a> this week \u2013 departure from Australian Idol, done so to protect the show from activists targeting advertisers\u2019 spend<\/a>, either.<\/p>\n

But maybe he won\u2019t have to. Perhaps that\u2019s why Seven\u2019s Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington \u2013 or even Mick Molloy \u2013 have been called up to present. Maybe one of the award winners will pull a Sonia Kruger and deliver a train-wreck victory speech<\/a>, and Stefanovic will finally be put to bed.<\/p>\n
