Phil Collins<\/a>\u00a0has said he has not had a drink in three years after what he\u00a0described as\u00a0\u201cdark times\u201d with alcohol addiction.<\/p>\n

The former\u00a0Genesis<\/a>\u00a0singer and drummer recently revealed that\u00a0his alcoholism left him critically ill and on life support in 2024<\/a>, with his children travelling to Switzerland amid fears that he might not make it.<\/p>\n

In a new interview with\u00a0Prog<\/a>, he has given a more hopeful update on his health. \u201cPhysically now, I reckon I\u2019m A1, 100 per cent,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve worked at it. Haven\u2019t drunk for three years. I do physio three times a week, to bring me up to speed. All is good!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI went through some pretty dark times,\u201d he added. \u201cI was never \u2018falling over\u2019 drunk. That wasn\u2019t it. It was just drinking \u2018normally\u2019, as one would drink water. I\u2019d wake up, have a glass of wine. Watch TV, read a book, have a glass of wine. Some people\u2019s insides can\u2019t take it. Mine broke down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Detailing his time on life support, he said: \u201cKidneys and\u00a0liver\u00a0were waving the white flag. I was close to dying, and I\u00a0hadn\u2019t\u00a0realised. I just thought I was sick.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also discussed his current attitude to making music in the new interview. \u201cI\u2019m never gonna say no now,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve got my little studio still, and I\u2019d like to get down there and just mess about and see what happens. There are some things I could finish. And other things which are finished. So it\u2019s not beyond the realms of possibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

Collins was admitted to hospital in November 2023 and after briefly being discharged, he returned weeks later and eventually spent seven months needing treatment, with his situation becoming critical in April 2024.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year,\u00a0he revealed he requires a 24-hour live-in nurse to help manage his medication after what he described as a \u201cdifficult, interesting, frustrating\u201d period<\/a>. \u201cI had everything that could go wrong with me, did go wrong with me,\u201d he said, while also revealing he has undergone five operations on his knee.<\/p>\n

More recently, he said he was feeling \u201chealthier\u201d than he had for some\u00a0time, but\u00a0still ruled out performing at his upcoming Rock & Roll Hall\u00a0Of\u00a0Fame induction later this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve got to be match fit to do something like that,\u201d he explained. \u201cYou can\u2019t just go onstage \u2013 you have to rehearse, and by that point, if you\u2019ve not been singing then your voice is going to be shot.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, however, that he would \u201ccontemplate\u201d performing live again in the future.<\/p>\n

Collins will be inducted as a solo artist in November<\/a>, having already gone in as a member of Genesis in 2010. Oasis,\u00a0Iron Maiden<\/a>,\u00a0Billy Idol<\/a>,\u00a0Sade<\/a>, Luther Vandross,\u00a0Wu-Tang Clan <\/a>and Joy Division<\/a>\/New Order<\/a>\u00a0are the other inductees.<\/p>\n

The musician is also preparing to mark the 45th\u00a0anniversary of his debut solo album \u2018Face Value\u2019 with an expanded reissue titled \u2018Face Value (Full\u00a0Value)\u2019.
