With both \u201cStrange New Worlds\u201d and \u201cStarfleet Academy\u201d already finished filming their final seasons to air in 2027, the \u201cStar Trek\u201d franchise is at a major crossroads in its 60th year.<\/p>\n

When they go offline, there\u2019ll be no new \u201cStar Trek\u201d shows on the air or in development \u2013 something we haven\u2019t really had for over a decade. There also hasn\u2019t been a new film in the series (the \u201cSection 31\u201d telemovie aside) since \u201cStar Trek: Beyond\u201d ten years ago.<\/p>\n

Speaking with Deadline<\/a>, Paramount+ Head of Originals exec Jane Wiseman was asked about the franchise\u2019s streaming future. She says the hiring of former Apple TV+ creative executive and co-president of Sony Pictures Television Studios Chris Parnell is key to the franchise\u2019s small screen future.<\/p>\n

She indicates to the outlet, \u201cIt\u2019s one of the reasons why Chris [Parnell] is here as the resident number one fan of the Star Trek franchise\u2026and there are so many people in this building, by the way, that are.\u201d Wiseman says the studio is committed to the franchise:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is our goal, and it is our job to figure out what the next bounce of Star Trek is. We\u2019re talking to a lot of writers, we are leaning on CBS Studios, and it is imperative that we figure out what the next iteration is in this franchise because it\u2019s just too important. We also are in touch with Paramount Pictures, they have a Star Trek movie that\u2019s in development.\u201d<\/p>\n
