Larry David has opened up about the collapse of his friendship with Alan Dershowitz, saying that Dershowitz \u201cmade a deal with the devil\u201d when he became Donald Trump\u2019s lawyer.<\/p>\n

Dershowitz, a former Harvard University law professor, has been a member of legal teams for Trump, Jeffrey Epstein, OJ Simpson and Harvey Weinstein at various points in his career, and served on Trump\u2019s defense team<\/a> during the president\u2019s first impeachment trial in 2020.<\/p>\n

Reports emerged in 2021 that David and Dershowitz, who were friends and neighbours for years on Martha\u2019s Vineyard, had a public argument during which the Curb Your Enthusiasm and Seinfeld creator was heard to call Dershowitz \u201cdisgusting\u201d.<\/p>\n

Dershowitz later confirmed the account was accurate, telling the New Yorker in 2022: \u201cSuddenly, Larry David<\/a> walks in to buy some groceries. I say, \u2018Hey. Hi, Larry,\u2019 and he turns away, and he just walks away. I say, \u2018Larry, can\u2019t we at least talk?\u2019 He said, \u2018No. You\u2019re disgusting.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cHe called me disgusting, and he said he could never talk to me,\u201d he added. \u201cHere\u2019s a guy who used to come to our house to work out in the gym. He would come to our house for dinner two or three times a summer.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a new profile of Dershowitz published by the Atlantic<\/a> this week, David spoke about the incident for the first time. \u201cI have lots of confrontations on my show but rarely in life. And then only if I think I can take them in a fight. Hence the Dershowitz dust-up,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In the Atlantic, Dershowitz spoke of feeling hurt that David had not contacted him when his son Elon died from a stroke last year aged 64. In response, David said he was \u201cstarting to feel a little sorry\u201d for Dershowitz, \u201ccertainly because of his son.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI certainly regret not [reaching out],\u201d David told the Atlantic. \u201cAs I said on Curb once, \u2018I think of nice things. I just don\u2019t act on them.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

But the next day David contacted the Atlantic again to add: \u201cI\u2019m loath to say anything mean because he\u2019s been so ostracised. But he only has himself to blame. He made a deal with the devil. Literally. And I\u2019d bet the devil hasn\u2019t said a word to him since the impeachment.\u201d<\/p>\n

In April, Dershowitz announced he was swapping to the Republican party after decades of supporting the Democratic party, which he labelled the \u201cmost anti-Israel party in US history\u201d.<\/p>\n
