Lady Gaga’s “The Dead Dance” could earn the singer her first Primetime Emmy \u2014 and its nomination for that honor may bring her back to the Grammys as well. Lady Gaga<\/a> is now three-quarters of the way toward completing her EGOT, the coveted acronym made up of Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards \u2013 the four biggest prizes in different entertainment fields.<\/p>\n Gaga has won 16 Grammys out of 45 nominations, as well as one Academy Award and an Emmy \u2013 which was earned at the Sports Emmys ceremony. This year, she has another chance to add to her Emmy collection, as the superstar is nominated for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.<\/p>\n Gaga is one of multiple writers behind \u201cThe Dead Dance,\u201d which she recorded and pushed as a single and which was included in the Netflix series Wednesday. The track was not one of the singer\u2019s biggest commercial smashes, but its recognition at the Emmys may be a sign that it could also become a Grammy contender in multiple fields later this year.<\/p>\n Lady Gaga\u2019s \u201cThe Dead Dance\u201d Is Grammy-Eligible<\/p>\n \u201cThe Dead Dance\u201d<\/a> was released on September 3, 2025, just days into the eligibility period for the upcoming Grammy Awards. That window runs until September 2026, so the Wednesday tune is eligible to compete at the next ceremony.<\/p>\n The single barely broke into the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking in last place on that tally, at No. 40. It performed better on several other rankings, becoming a top 10 hit on both the Adult Pop Airplay and Hot Dance\/Pop Songs charts.<\/p>\n Chart success certainly does not guarantee Grammy recognition, but the fact that \u201cThe Dead Dance\u201d has already earned an Emmy nomination \u2013 and that it performed well enough in America to place on some of the biggest tallies for songs \u2013 suggests that awards voters have taken notice.<\/p>\n Lady Gaga Could Compete in Pop or Dance Categories<\/p>\n Where \u201cThe Dead Dance\u201d fits in terms of Grammy categories is a little difficult to predict. The track could easily end up submitted for Best Pop Solo Performance, though it might instead find a home in Best Dance Pop Recording. That latter category is one of the more recent additions from the Recording Academy, and Gaga has already come out on top in that vertical.<\/p>\n Gaga has won both potential categories in the past. In 2019, \u201cJoanne (Where Do You Think You\u2019re Goin\u2019?)\u201d beat tracks by Beck, Camila Cabello, Ariana Grande and Post Malone to snag Best Pop Solo Performance. <\/p>\n Earlier this year, Gaga\u2019s \u201cAbracadabra,\u201d<\/a> featured on her Grammy-winning album Mayhem, became the third champion in the Best Dance Pop Recording category. The singer joined Kylie Minogue and Charli XCX as the only winners since the field was introduced.<\/p>\n Between the two, \u201cThe Dead Dance\u201d may have a better shot in Best Dance Pop Recording, though it largely depends on where Gaga submits it and how the Recording Academy ultimately classifies the tune.<\/p>\n Lady Gaga Could Return to a Visual Media Field<\/p>\n There is another, less closely-followed Grammy field where \u201cThe Dead Dance\u201d may be especially competitive: Best Song Written for Visual Media. The category recognizes tracks penned specifically for movies, television and other visual projects, and the Wednesday single is an obvious potential fit. <\/p>\n Gaga has already won the Best Song Written for Visual Media award twice. She stood out as the champion two years in a row, first with \u201cShallow\u201d<\/a> in 2019 and then with \u201cI\u2019ll Never Love Again\u201d<\/a> in 2020. Both tunes were featured on the A Star Is Born soundtrack.<\/p>\n Gaga has also lost the prize on multiple occasions. \u201cTil It Happens to You\u201d from The Hunting Ground and \u201cHold My Hand,\u201d which was featured in Top Gun: Maverick, were both nominated, but failed to take home the prize.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Dead Dance\u201d seems like a natural contender for this honor, considering the fact that it is already an Emmy nominee in a closely-related field \u2013 though competition is sure to be fierce.<\/p>\n Lady Gaga Earns Her Fifth Primetime Emmy Nomination<\/p>\n \u201cThe Dead Dance\u201d earned Gaga her fifth Primetime Emmy nomination. Throughout the years, she has competed in several different categories, though most of her recognition has been connected to music and live performance.<\/p>\n A number of her earlier nominations came from televised concert specials, including her Monster Ball Tour and performances alongside the late Tony Bennett. At the 2025 Sports Emmys, she won Outstanding Music Direction for her performance of \u201cHold My Hand\u201d \u2013 her Top Gun: Maverick cut \u2013 during the Super Bowl pregame.<\/p>\n Now \u201cThe Dead Dance\u201d gives her another opportunity to win an even-more-prestigious Emmy, this time at the Primetime show. The Creative Arts Emmys will be handed out September 5 and 6, with the main televised ceremony following on September 14.<\/p>\n
