The hunt for the new James Bond has been going on for so long that you\u2019d be forgiven for thinking that the series\u2019 producers are waiting for some actor to age into the role. Pre-Amazon Bond producer Michael G. Wilson said years ago that the actor who would eventually take the role would be a \u201cthirty-something,\u201d<\/a> which officially put Tom Holland in the running as of early June. (Of course, he\u2019s probably too associated with Spider-Man to take on the role, but allow us to make the point.) But the length of this process has potentially bumped some people out of the process, like Theo James, who\u2019s 41. Even James thinks so.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m definitely too old now, for one,\u201d the White Lotus and The Gentlemen star says in a new profile in British GQ<\/a>. This, of course, isn\u2019t really true, and writer Xuanlin Tham says so. For example, Daniel Craig was 42 when Casino Royale premiered, as was Pierce Brosnan when Golden Eye opened.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But you also get the sense from reading the profile that this is more of a polite excuse than a real rationale. He says playing Bond \u201cwould be an example of a place you could never come back from.\u201d This comes after an extended conversation about James\u2019 experience in YA adaptation Divergent, which led to him and his father running from fans in the streets of Spain and which is still causing people to interrupt him to ask for selfies during his GQ interview.
