We still have six more months until The One Piece<\/a>, Wit Studio<\/a>‘s remake<\/a> of the One Piece<\/a> anime for Netflix<\/a>, but the staff provided us one more tease in the form of a new key art. The art pays homage to the two-page color splash spread that opens “Romance Dawn: The Dawn of Adventure” \u2014\u00a0the very first chapter of Eiichiro Oda<\/a>‘s original manga: <\/p>\n

Netflix will begin streaming<\/a> “all seven episodes” of the first season of The One Piece anime worldwide in February 2027. The seven episodes will recount the story from the first 50 manga chapters over the course of about 300 minutes. <\/p>\n

Mayumi Tanaka<\/a> will reprise her role as Monkey D. Luffy from the ongoing One Piece television anime.<\/p>\n

Masashi Koizuka<\/a> (Attack on Titan<\/a>, Moonrise<\/a>) is directing the new anime at Wit Studio, and Hideaki Abe<\/a> (key animator for Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet<\/a> film, episode 5 of Suicide Squad ISEKAI<\/a>) is the assistant director. Kyoji Asano<\/a> (Attack on Titan, chief animation director for Spy\u00d7Family<\/a>) and Takatoshi Honda<\/a> (animation director for The First Slam Dunk<\/a> film) are the character designers and chief animation directors. Yasuhiro Kajino<\/a> (design and key animator for In\/Spectre<\/a>, conceptual design and key animator for RIN-NE 2nd season) is in charge of image board and creature design, and Eri Taguchi<\/a> (animation director for Vampire in the Garden<\/a>, character designer for Play It Cool, Guys<\/a>) is in charge of prop design. Taku Kishimoto<\/a> (Haikyu!!<\/a>, Ranking of Kings<\/a>) is in charge of series scripts, Ken Imaizumi<\/a> (animation director for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations<\/a>) and Shuhei Fukuda<\/a> (animation director for My Hero Academia<\/a> seasons 4 and 6, My Hero Academia: You’re Next<\/a> film) is the action animator, Tomonori Kuroda<\/a> (A Certain Magical Index<\/a>, A Certain Scientific Railgun<\/a>) is the art director, and Ry\u014dma Kawamura<\/a> (Moonrise) is the animation producer.<\/p>\n

President and CEO of Production I.G<\/a> and President of Wit Studio George Wada<\/a> said<\/a> in an interview in March that the anime will have tighter pacing without unnecessary padding, when compared to Toei Animation<\/a>‘s original anime. In terms or directorial and artistic style, Wada added that Wit Studio aims to produce the new remake with similar strength and quality to its other anime; such as Attack on Titan, Spy\u00d7Family, and Vinland Saga<\/a>; which have aired at late night in Japan. This is in comparison to Toei’s anime, which previously aired in a children’s timeslot on Sunday mornings. At the same time, he expressed that he wants the new anime to fully respect Toei Animation’s work.<\/p>\n

The One Piece anime remake was first announced<\/a> at the Jump Festa<\/a> ’24 event in December 2023. The announcement stated that the anime series is adapting “starting from” the East Blue Saga (hinting it might cover more than the East Blue Saga, but this is not confirmed). The remake’s announcement commemorated 25 years of the anime.<\/p>\n

The ongoing anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga premiered in 1999.<\/p>\n

The One Piece anime’s Elbaph arc debuted<\/a> in Japan on April 5. Crunchyroll<\/a> is streaming<\/a> the arc.<\/p>\n

One Piece: Into the Grand Line<\/a>, the second<\/a> live-action season<\/a> based on Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga, debuted<\/a> on Netflix on March 10. The first two episodes played<\/a> in over 200 theaters in Canada, the United States, and Japan on the same day. The third season will premiere<\/a> in 2027, and an animated Lego special will stream<\/a> on September 29.<\/p>\n
